Darth Vader #5 wrapped up the new series' first story arc and it delved into how the Sith Lord first got his hands on the red lightsaber he used to strike down Obi-Wan Kenobi. In a surprising twist, the in-canon story revealed that those who turn to the Dark Side must steal their lightsabers from a Jedi and corrupt the Kyber crystal within for their own blades so they can fully wield the Force. What a twist!

After slaying Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a, he set about creating his lightsaber and was ordered by Emperor Palpatine to go to the spot where Anakin Skywalker "died" on Mustafar to build it. It was during that moment Vader had second thoughts about being a Sith and used the green blade to strike down his Master. After finally ridding the Galaxy of evil, he tracked down Obi-Wan to beg him for forgiveness.

Well, that's what happened in Vader's Force Vision anyway! After waking up from his hallucination, Vader declares that "This is all there is." However, this moment of clarity could have a major impact on the Star Wars Universe moving forward and explains why he ultimately found redemption in Return of the Jedi. Could this have an impact on Kylo Ren's journey? We'll find out in Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

I read the issue and...i mean...how does Josh jump to all these conclusions?
Why even bring Kylo Ren here?

@Doomsday8888 - the bait man. The bait.

I dont like the whole corruption thing, I prefer the artificial crystal being why Sith sabers are all red

@Ha1frican - Honestly, the artificial crystals never made sense to me. Any dark-side wielder could just go to a planet and get one. Is the point that the Sith are just [frick]ing lazy and can't be assed to seek out a crystal for their blades? That's lame.

Plus, the original idea for lightsaber colors was that they reflected the personality of their given wielder, this new canon story development where color is created through a bond with their original wielder further adds to that idea, unlike the EU which just did its own thing.

And I'm not saying the EU's version was bad or wrong, it just seemed like a fake excuse for Lucas's behind-the-scenes reasoning of 'red is evil, blue and green are good' so they just came up with something to justify it.

What does Mace Windu's purple lightsaber tell us lol.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 9/7/2017, 12:47 PM
@Kurban - Go to a planet and get one? The jedi had the Illum saber crystal site protected so that people couldnt make weapons out of them and considering with the exception of the Old Republic the number of Sith were only 2 and were always operating in secret they wouldnt be able to take the entire order on by themselves so they had to make cheap alternatives which because they were impure were all the same color

@Kurban -
Of course they came up with something to justify these red lightsabers, i mean it can't be a coincidence that every Sith lord has a red one, right?
The bleeding process explains that, cause this Kyber crystals are alive-ish and they tend to follow the light side, and yeah it will reflect the user.
Lazy or not, Sith lords just HAVE to corrupt em!
In this case, it was more of a...initiation.

@LEVITIKUZ - and actually purple I believe had something to do with Saber mastery as a proficiency and tendency towards violence

@Ha1frican - I prefer the canon version,

I like that the Kyber Crystals are in a sense living (hence they are connected to the force). And that they have sentience, activel "singing" to their rightful owners.
That fact that the sith (as a ritual) must go out and kill a Jedi then corrupt their crystal adds to the mythology of the sith.

@StormXmen123 - yeah im not gonna lie i think thats incredibly dumb lol

Also the bleeding process is actually kinda old, it wasn't introduced in this comic but in the Ahsoka Novel i think.

Yes Josh. This comic explains how Vader found redemption in Jedi. It wasn't the fact that throughout Jedi, Vader's feelings were conflicted because of Luke. It wasn't the fact that Vader saw the Emperor killing his son in front of him.

It was the events of Darth Vader #5 that lead to his redemption.
