COMICS: Will DAREDEVIL Be The First To Figure Out THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN's Identity?

We've already seen a preview of this month's Daredevil #22, but another unlettered page from the issue seemingly indicates that the Man Without Fear might just have his suspicions about this new "Superior" Spider-Man! Hit the jump to check it out.

Daredevil no longer remembers Spider-Man's secret identity (as we learned in Amazing Spider-Man #600), but will his enhanced senses be able to figure out that there's something "different" with the wall-crawling superhero when they come to blows in Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's Daredevil #22? Well, we won't know until the issue goes on sale later this month, but it certainly seems as if Matt Murdock knows that there's SOMETHING strange about the way his longtime friend is acting; other than the fact he's attacking him of course. Will he deduct that this Superior Spider-Man is in fact Doctor Octopus in the body of Peter Parker? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts below!

That would be pretty anticlimatic. First hero he encounters figures out Spidey's no longer Peter.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Avenging Spider-Man ock, and hasn't that been out for months? So it's not really the first encounter, right?

It's too early for such a revelation -- I'm sure they'll tease other heroes finding out the secret, ad nauseum, before the truth actually does come out. At least he's being made to look less moronic than MJ in ASM 700 though.

On a side-note, another problem (among many) I have with this hot garbage known as Superior Spider-Man: They thought that Peter's marriage to Mary Jane aged the character... so they dissolved it in an event that effectively erased a shit-ton of continuity. Now, less than a decade later, they take a character who is much older than Peter Parker, put him in his body and make him the new Spider-Man instead. How does that make sense on any level?

The more time I get to think of this, the more I hate it. It just feels like, more and more, that there was no actual justification for this storyline... other than to boost sales and allow Slot the opportunity to live vicariously (and creepily) through Doc Ock.

@Scabsallover, Months? No, ASM #700 and Avenging Spidey #15.1 was just last Wednesday.

@wearethewalkingdead9, Not liking an artist doesnt make them a bad artist. Samnee is king! DD and Waid are lucky to have him.

@Scabsallover

You are mistaken. Avenging Spider-Man is just the title for a series that has Spider-Man teaming with a different hero every month. It was Peter Parker in the comic until last week's issue.

SUPERIOR Spider-Man is Doc Ock, not Avenging.

Would everybody that knows him figure it out right away just from the delivery of jokes? Does Doc say jokes? Quips? Smart Ass remarks?

If not, the jig is up.

@Splenda- Actually, your heart rate increases when you lie. It is still possible for Daredevil to figure it out.

Anyways, one of the many major problems of #700 was the stupidity of MJ. She has known Peter since high school and doesn't question why he isn't talking or acting like he normally does. If none of the heroes can figure it out soon, Marvel's characters are going to look pretty stupid.

I think Daredevil just figured out he's being attacked by the real peter. How he speaks might be different but it's still all the same pitch and what not. I think how Ock got this way is like OMD. But I think Superior may be like BND in that once we get past the messy origin, the actually story is pretty good.

yea im curious how they are going to avoid or handle the many MANY marvel psychics encountering spider-ock. this entire idea falls apart the second they meet.

if they simply have them never meet - it becomes furtyher proof this was a poorly thought out gimmick by a sad fat little man who wants to live vicariously through PP.

I rather see this title canceled and if ever gets brought back, hopefully would be Peter & Mj, before OMD....

@ DudeLove721 - Actually this statement is wrong:

"You are mistaken. Avenging Spider-Man is just the title for a series that has Spider-Man teaming with a different hero every month. It was Peter Parker in the comic until last week's issue.

SUPERIOR Spider-Man is Doc Ock, not Avenging"

The Spiderman that appears in Avenging Spiderman as of issue 15.1 is the Doc Ock Superior Spiderman!!!

Check your facts before accusing another person of being in error...cause it just makes you sound like an idiot!!!

It is going to be interesting with what they do with Ock-Spidey, wondering how they will keep this as the status quo, as him fighting every hero he comes across is going to make others think something is not right with Peter.

@Supersomething616 Dudelove721 did say it was Peter Parker in Avenging until last weeks issue.

Really dislike how Marvel have treated Spider-man in the last 15 or so years. I agree with Dudelove721 in why dissolve the marriage to make Peter younger when you are just going to replace him with a much older guy. Marvel did the same thing with the unmasking in Civil War they did it for the stories they could tell with him going public only for it to be changed back one year later.

Although I didn't mind #700 I agree Mary Jane is a friggin idiot.

I'm sure this new Doc/Spidey will be reverted back within a year until then I think it is time to drop Spidey for the first time since 88

People who think this is a great send off to an era are stupid. I'm sorry but i'm going to attack your stupid opinion.would you like to have your body taking over, die, then watch in heaven as Doc Ock bangs your wife/GF and ruins your relationships with freinds an family? A hero who died as if he did something terribly wrong. It's different if the bad guys just simply wins. the hero is dead but the bad guy victorious. as long as the hero dies aa heroic death and has properly passed on his mantle. BUT NO! Peters death was pathetic. eye hanging out. being stood over by his own body. Died like a loser. What slott did was make spider-man one of the most unrelatable character in marvel. Spider-man is loved because he's suppose to be relatable! we can all see a little bit of ourselves in his daily life. his personality. What connection do we have to Doc ock? What do we share? Spiderman is now completely unrelatable. and that is just wrong. Ultimate Peter Parkers death was epic and emotional. Miles even got 616 parkers blessing along with Ultimate parkers families blessing. The Ultimate Writes actually made it seem like "This was the death of a great hero". 616 writers made it look like "This is the death of a loser". Dan Slott and the higher-ups that allowed this to happen... are all stupid idiots. Even Stan Lee doesn't like how Slott raped his best hero.

With Daredevil's acute hearing surely he will tell the difference between the tone of the voices or does he still have the same vocal chourds and sound exactly like Peter Parker...

SPIDERMAN HAS JUST BECOME AN EPIC FAIL...

@SuperSomething616

If you had actually read my post, I said that Peter Parker was in Avenging Spider-Man until last week's issue (15.1) of the series. I didn't write the issue number or say that it was Doc Ock specifically but I figured anyone reading could put two and two together. Either Way, what I wrote wasn't factually incorrect.

It sounded like the person posting about Avenging Spider-Man was confusing it with Superior Spider-Man because he/she made a comment about how Daredevil should've known it wasn't Peter months ago since they teamed up in Avenging Spider-Man.

I wasn't trying to accuse anyone of anything. If you're gonna call me an idiot (or say that my posts make me look like one) though, you might wanna get your own facts straight too. Thanks! :)

Some of us here already know the true Identity of The Superior Spider-Man. Marvel has just created a new level of Failure. I'm serious, they have ran out of ideas, and came up with a crap idea. No, I'm not going to spoil it for the people who don't know who the new Spider-Man is. Sorry.

I think Daredevil can tell that Spider-Man has a different heart rate.

I mean, Doc Ock has Peter Parker's heart, but his heart rate is probably higher because he's more angry than Peter is when he fights.

I'm still shocked that they did this to Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
superpooper
superpooper - 1/1/2013, 10:18 PM
Of course Daredevil could tell. If he can detect whether or not you're lying from your heartbeat then one would have to assume that since Doc is basically lying by passing himself off as Spiderman, it wouldn't take long for DD to pick up on it.
