This June, Rob Liefeld returns with an all-new Deadpool saga in Deadpool: Badder Blood! To celebrate the upcoming action-packed limited series, we'll see the iconic Merc with the Mouth pop up throughout Marvel Comics history in new "Homager Variant Covers."

Just as Deadpool: Badder Blood will be an extreme followup to Liefeld's previous Deadpool: Bad Blood series, Marvel's regular Homage Variant Covers are being taken to the next level, and are more "homager" than ever!

Kicking off in May, these five stunning covers will see Liefeld paying tribute to some of his favourite Marvel Covers and artists - with a Deadpool-style twist! Adorning the covers of some of Marvel’s hottest titles, see Wade Wilson steal the spotlight of groundbreaking moments like Wolverine's first solo title, the original Secret Wars, and more.

The collection will take inspiration from the following classic covers:

  • Fantastic Four #52 by Jack Kirby
  • Secret Wars #7 by Mike Zeck
  • Captain America #111 by Jim Steranko
  • Daredevil #163 by Frank Miller
  • And the collection of the original Wolverine limited series by Frank Miller

"Marvel has a world class library of historic and recognizable comic book covers, and when they asked me to make some Deadpool covers for their Homagers series," Liefeld says, "I jumped at the chance to pay proper tribute to iconic images from Marvel Legends, Jack Kirby, Jim Steranko, Mike Zeck and Frank Miller!"

"These were a blast to create and I’m excited to share how I inserted Deadpool into classic Daredevil, Wolverine, and Fantastic Four covers!"

Deadpool: Badder Blood will see the Merc with the Mouth team up with guest stars like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Cable against a dangerous new villain. Deadpool's upcoming mission will also raise the stakes of his intense feud with his adversary, Thumper, revealing surprising details about the deadly killer’s origin along the way.

Additionally, it's said we can look forward to being introduced to brand-new Liefeld-created characters including Killville, Arcata, and the mysterious warrior, Shatterstorm.

Check out the variant covers below.

all he had to do was trace? sounds like the perfect project for Liefeld

@Dredd97 - makes you wonder why he didn't just trace the feet for all those years...

@Dredd97 - At first I thought you were joking but upon further review, he must have! His anatomy has never been that good.

@Dredd97 -

I was about to say how proud I was that he finally learned how to draw feet…but alas…😣

He had to draw feet and proper anatomy to do the homage covers. 😂

@RolandD - the ninja feet look more like monkey feet

@bs77 - You’re right. I guess he didn’t trace everything. 😂

It doesn’t count as Liefeld att unless the feet are missing and the anatomy is off… someone must have drawn these for him.

That cover of Secret Wars 7 with Deadpool instead of Spider-man has already been done by Simone Bianchi as a variant cover for Secret Wars#1 2015. Liefeld is such a hack!

Man, he just keeps getting worse, huh? At least his old, anatomically dubious work had some panache. This is just flat and dull.

Liefeld is to Deadpool what Bob Kane is to Batman.

Liefeld has gotten better. Art skill/style aside, some of these are pretty cool.

Wait a sec... there are an unusually large number of feet and small number of pouches in those covers. I'm seriously doubting that that's Liefield's handywork. Hang on... biceps, thighs, and calves all exaggerated to almost grotesque proportions? Yep, that's him alright. About as recognizable as his signature. Whew! I was worried for a sec that he had taken an art class or two over the last couple of decades.*

*Disclaimer: As a visual artist myself I will fully admit that he is considerably better than I am. That being said, art is just not a hobby for me and not, like, my full time job. Come to think of it, I kinda suck at my full time job too. Huh. Well, I'm pretty suer that I'm REALLY good at something. Lemme think... nope, not that... DEFINITELY not that or she wouldn't have left me for that Hungarian juggler... not that or everyone wouldn't have gotten food poisoning... nope not - wait! I know, it's drinking. I'm REALLY good at drinking! There we go. See, I knew I was really good at something (bet I could drink Liefield under the table).
