Kamala Khan Is One Of Mutantkind's Greatest Champions In Iman Vellani's MS. MARVEL: MUTANT MENACE Comic

The final issue of Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant hit stands earlier this week, delivering the conclusion to Kamala Khan's first mission as a member of the X-Men.

After taking down a Stark Sentinel and disrupting an Orchis operation singlehandedly, it's safe to say Ms. Marvel has proven herself beyond a doubt to the mutant cause. However, this pivotal chapter for one of Marvel Comics' brightest stars is far from over.

Next March, Marvel Studios' own Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, will be joined by Sabir Pirzada to chronicle the hero's next steps in exploring her mutant identity. That will play out in the pages of Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace

The four-issue limited series will continue to cement Ms. Marvel's role in the X-Men mythos while staying true to the character's roots and celebrating what makes her such a standout hero in the Marvel Universe. Her upcoming adventure will take her back to Jersey City, where she’ll have to confront another Fall of X-related threat while dealing with the fallout of being outed as a mutant.

Balancing both will bring Ms. Marvel into contact with more X-Men (as well as iconic X-Men villains) and reunite her with key supporting players of her own, including a fan-favourite ex. This time around, co-writers Vellani and Pirzada will be joined by Scott Godlewski, who made his Marvel debut in the recent Alpha Flight series, while Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant artist Carlos Gómez provides the series' covers.

Here's the solicitation text for the first issue:

"Hated and feared! Ms. Marvel has officially come out to the world as a mutant and a member of the X-Men...and she’s about to learn just how hard things can get for mutantkind! Kamala Khan is used to being a hometown hero – there’s no way her community would turn on her just because she’s a mutant, right? Right?"

"It's been an absolute joy and privilege to get to co-write Ms. Marvel with Iman Vellani, who has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is the voice of Ms. Marvel on the page just as much as she is on the screen," Pirzada says. "We are excited to report that Kamala's mutant journey will continue on in Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace. It will be Kamala's most dangerous ride yet."

Please don't put her in The X-Men movie.

I can see them giving her the Kitty Pryde joining The X-Men role, which would suck.

@marvel72 - She'll be front and centre, you'll see. They didn't make her the first official mutant just to shelf her.

@TheyDont - Just seems they don't know what to do with her.

Give her a show that hardly anyone watched on Disney Plus.
Stick her Captain Marvel, The Marvels flopped.
Now put her with The X-Men that movie is bound to make money, we'll I would believe it will but I could be wrong.

@marvel72 - If they try to wedge in MCU characters that are not classic X-Men, the property will fail. Disney has lost $200 billion (over 50%) of their value in the last year. They’ve had so many poor performing movie releases recently. They’ve tried claiming that they know they aren’t appealing to audiences and are going to fix things.

If they try inserting MCU characters like Ms Marvel, Photon, etc into the MCU mutants instead of the dozens of more popular traditional comics mutants, this property will underperform.

If they do anything besides give us classic X-Men and classic stories, they will be making the same mistakes and getting the same poor results.

@mountainman -

All I want is comic book accurancy, costumes and stories,I want to get excited for comic book movies again.

@marvel72 - Yeah, but I will say it doesn’t have to be a 1:1 adaptation to be good.

Civil War was very different from the comic and was still good. But it had the heart of the story in tact. Tony wanted them to sign accords to be “official” while Cap supported the autonomy and recognized dangers of having a centralized superhero registration authority.

Same with GOTG. First movie had a ton of changes from comics. But each character, for the most part, was in tact.

Changes can happen. But keep the heart of it. The first mutant team should only be made up of characters from the OG 5 or Giant Sized teams. When they expand, they can bring in newer characters, but there is zero reason to insert Ms Marvel into it EVER. We don’t want retconned mutants. We don’t want them to insert modern BS storylines (like somehow now Mystique is Nightcrawler’s freaking dad of all things?!?!).

We just want the version of the X-Men that made them popular (80’s and 90’s teams).

@mountainman - Again I agree, just like The Avengers movie.

That featured 3/5 of the founding members up against Loki, just like Avengers #1.
It wasn't a straight adaption but I don't mind that, they can come up with whatever story they want.

@mountainman - I mean I am fairly sure when they turn up the main Xmen team wlll be close to the original one, maybe swapping out or adding here and there some from the early giant sized teams. That doesn't negate others tagging along at various points however so think concerns are overblown just cos of what is currently occuring in print.

That said would it be game breaking for anything or anyone if the first Xmen film had the exact original team plus Ms. Marvel in a supporting role at the end of the day?
mountainman
mountainman - 11/30/2023, 9:00 AM
@Apophis71 - I’m not a fan of it. A questionable decision like including Ms Marvel will likely lead to other questionable decisions.

As of today, I have very little interest or faith in the MCU. I miss most of their movies in theaters. The last D+ show I watched all the way through was Moon Knight.

For then to gain my trust back, I need the mutants to be done right. And that means no race swaps, no inserted characters like Ms Marvel, good writing, and inspiration from the Claremont or Lee eras.

Anything besides that, and they won’t get me back. And Marvel needs all the fans they have lost in recent years to come back.

Apophis71 - 11/30/2023, 9:24 AM
@mountainman - As I say, think concerns are overblown, sure they made some huge errors during the COVID era on pushing too much without suffice oversight but they aren't going to double down on those mistakes after having seen the results of them. As such do think the main team will be the most established Xmen names going to reinvigorate the fanbase.

As I say however if not part of the main team and just a supporting role having one other character in there wouldn't on it's own detract from anything as long as it is well written, cast and directed and there would be far worse tag alongs than Ms. Marvel.

I don't think they will at all however if going there doing a team of younger Avengers in a few years time. Looking at schedules where that would fit in and production timelines can't see that occuring before 2026. Could you realy see them having a Young Avengers team only for one of them to jump ship across to the Xmen only a year or two later?

@marvel72 - seeing how she's also pushing for Young Avengers (both as Kamela and Iman herself), I doubt she'll be on two teams

@marvel72 - but wait, maybe she could join both and be a liaison between teams?
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/30/2023, 1:40 PM
@bkmeijer1 - In the MCU, only way I can see her ending up firmly with the Xmen as it currently stands is if they do another Civil War type event film, or she sides with the mutants during an Avengers v Xmen adaption.

Kinda depends on how they handle anything but when first introducing the post Secret Wars Xmen it will likely be all traditional Xmen either the original team or a pick and mix selection from the early pre-80's giant sized team to be a better mix of male/female than the 5/1 ratio of the first iteration (Feige has a bit of a track record of intro's roughly in comic book appearance order). After that others could appear alongside them be they F4, Avengers or lone wolf characters but even then doubt they would be perm fixtures and just be tag alongs for a single story/film.

Odds are if release dates stick and don't shift again we will likely get the young Avengers team 2016 at the earliest if a D+ show and no solo film for them in this arc at all (but appear in Secret Wars). Xmen will be a priority film at the start of the next saga and be somewhere within phase 7, which would also be the first phase I could see a Young Avengers movie being a possibility.

Bigger chance that outside of any Xmen film somewhere Ms. Marvel joins up with the new Wolverine as they have strong ties in the comics.

bkmeijer1 - 11/30/2023, 2:02 PM
@Apophis71 - yeah, that's seems like a way to go. They'll probably take a slow approach, so Ms. Marvel might not join them for a long time.

Kinda hope we get to see AvX down the line (I even think it's a better way to do the Phoenix saga on screen), but first I wanna see the original team and the Giant-Size team established first.

@JustAWaffle - dude, here’s a girl that dressed up in Ms Marvel cosplay as a kid and is literally living out her dreams as that character in film and writing that character in print.

Iman Vellani might be the most desperate actress on the face of the Earth. A comic book to promote your movie? I don't recall Val Kilmer doing that for Forever.

@CoHost - I really don't see this as desperate. More just cross promotion.

You're acting like she has actual tangible power there to force them to let her publish a comic, despite her still being an unknown actress.
