Mutantkind is set to send shockwaves through the Marvel Universe yet again in this year's Hellfire Gala. At last year's, mutants changed the face of the solar system, terraforming Mars and claiming it for mutantkind. This year will continue the tradition with more game-changing developments, the exciting reveal of the new X-Men lineup, and direct lead-ins to A.X.E.: Judgement Day.

The future of mutantkind as we know it begins here, and it's written by current X-Men writer Gerry Duggan and features artwork by Kris Anka, Russell Dauterman, Matteo Lolli, and C.F. Villa. X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 will also boast stunning covers by superstar artists Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, Adam Hughes, Arthur Adams, Carlos Gómez, and Nick Dragotta.

In Kieron Gillen’s Immortal X-Men #4, Emma Frost will stop at nothing to make sure the Hellfire Gala is a night no one in the Marvel Universe will soon forget. Then, in Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz' X-Men #12, the current X-Men team go out in style, and secrets are revealed that guarantee the Hellfire Gala will be overflowing with drama.

Oh, and if you’re looking for the afterparty, swing over to Zeb Wells and Amazing Spider-Man #9 this August. Something happens at the Gala that sends Spider-Man and Wolverine on a dangerous mission all over creation. That’s right, the best duo in comics is back, but who are they fighting, and what (or who) are they fighting for? We'll find out in X-en: Hellfire Gala #1!

Check out some incredible cover art for the one-shot below:

@Thing94 - I have to agree. Not too often I enjoy the majority of the covers but these are coo.

X-Men comics are soooooooo bad now.

@CorndogBurglar - I haven't kept up since House/Powers of X. It was a cool idea for a reboot but are they really still doing the Krakoa thing?

@CorndogBurglar - agreed. Michael Turner, Adam Kubert, Jim Lee, John Byrne, Alex Ross, Art Adams, hell, even Andy Kubert put out classic covers. The above has a couple C+ in the mix, but nothing Uncanny.

@VictorAlonzo - Oh victor, he said the comics are bad. Not the covers. Now he may believe the covers are bad too. But his implication was the storyline of the comics at least (Provided possibly the art but thats secondry) is bad. Oh you.

@Randomusername - You finally got to accurately correct me. 👏 Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 🥳.

Now go sit quietly in the corner and finish your oatmeal.

@VictorAlonzo - Calm yourself Victor. Calm yourself. I merely corrected you on your own idiocay. BUT. I believe you still have the potential for greatness. You keep reaching for the skies.

Buty stop using emojis. We're launching a war on the liberals here.

@VictorAlonzo - Infact there we go. I left a rather big spelling mistake there. Correct me on it. I shall train you in the arts.

@VictorAlonzo - A “couple of C+” when you got the likes of Adam Hughes, Pepe Larraz, Artgerm, Nick Dragotta, Russel Dauterman, and Mark Brooks up there. Oh and Art Adams is actually there.

As someone who was taught by the Kuberts, these covers fall in line with a lot that they have done as well. Especially Pepe Larraz, who’s arguably one of the the best artists to capture that same feel on X-Men for the modern era. Not every cover needs to be an instant classic either, but all of these are above C+.

@Randomusername -

*Idiocracy, but,...

*But (actually, just omit "but") Stop...

*In fact...

Did you put almond milk in your oatmeal? Blueberries? Strawberries? You should really finish eating. Proper nourishment may increase your spelling accuracy.

@DTor91 - Opinions are important. These were not my cup of tea. I think it's something about the gloss style used in modern comics. It feels "Ultimate MCUey" to me. The fact I had to double back twice to confirm Art Adams says a lot. However I do appreciate your response that got me to do so. I don't feel like any of these are anything past above average. The stop and stare factor didn't pull me. My favorite was the Red silk sheets over The Emma Frost. To each their own.

@CorndogBurglar - how are they bad now? this is some of the best shit in years. new ground and territory being explored. them being on the run and always on the verge of extinction gets old. let them have some geopolitical significance for once and the fact that they have to cooperate with mass murdering bad guys to survive as a species is awesome too.

@VictorAlonzo - i'm generally aligned with your opinion on these covers. My general criticism is that, except the JRJR cover, the covers are the characters simply posing. There isn't something dynamic or some story/situation being told. They're not special. The JRJR cover instantly caught my eye -- "Spidey is about to fight some villain; who, I wonder?" Anyway, my two cents.

@PapaSpank54 - I decided to jump back in with House/Powers and am almost through the various #1s of the first month, and it's so far it's really really good.

There's some disorientation from having missed 15 years of continuity, but the overall gimmick of essentially doing Magneto's Genosha right is compelling stuff. I've heard some grousing about the handling of Moira, but I'm a lot more forgiving of retcons like that nowadays (essentially every big arc is an Elseworlds story anyway, so it's best not to get worked up about it, in my view).

The art has been spectacular, too. Just overall a great experience so far.

Maybe it helps that I haven't been following the books lately, so I don't care about dropped plotlines. And obviously there are big nostalgia hits in how they putting characters back into a version of their relationships from 20 years ago (and frankly fixing a lot of bad decisions, in my view). For example, Cyclops and Emma had been together for possibly longer than Cyclops and Jean had, and yet (to me) it's always been a temporary fling that just went on way too long. For monthly readers who have grown up with Scott/Emma, I'm sure this feels like the big betrayal of that status quo.
