The Maker is the Ultimate Universe's Mister Fantastic, and the villain recently enacted a plan to resurrect his destroyed reality in Ultimate Invasion. However, Earth-1610 is now Earth-6160, a twisted version of what Reed would like his world to be.

With this being a Jonathan Hickman-penned story, it's a little hard to explain what's happened so far in the space of a few paragraphs. All you really need to know right now is that The Maker has come under attack from an army of future clones based on the likes of Captain America, Thor, and The Wasp.

However, Reed managed to outsmart his mysterious opponent by killing the innocent present-day family members of those heroes, ensuring their DNA was wiped from reality. The fight was far from over, though, and in today's Ultimate Invasion #3, we learn more about how The Maker is ruling over this dystopian reality.

In order to cement his new home's place in the Multiverse, The Maker asks Earth-6160's Iron Man (Howard Stark) to help fix a device called the Immortus Engine that was responsible for creating this world in the first place.

The shocker comes when The Maker reveals he already has someone working on it: Reed Richards, though this Variant is wearing Doctor Doom's mask!

It's an intriguing development but another comes in the issue's epilogue. There, we learn the person attempting to stop The Maker's time-travel shenanigans is a new version of Kang who, if we're being honest, looks a lot like Iron Man!

Hickman only has one issue left to wrap this story up, though November will see the release of Ultimate Universe #1, a one-shot establishing the new Ultimate Universe before the launch of four ongoing titles. Those are expected to focus on Spider-Man, the X-Men, The Ultimates, and Black Panther.

The Ultimate Universe started out great. Ultimate Spider-Man worked. The Ultimates 1 and 2 had some of the most compelling storytelling in comic history. But then it fell apart. Ultimatum was a mess.

@hainesy - I liked all of the Ultimate titles… Ultimatum was fun for what it was, but it caused the downfall of the Ultimate Universe because Marvel tried to top it. There was no way to come back from that.

And this is why Sue should lead the team, not because she's a MILF or because she's the most powerful, but because you never see a evil version of her running around causing shenanigans. (Conveniently ignore the time she became Malice and ignore the evil zombie version)

@KaptainKhaos - The original version of Kang in the Ultimate Universe was Sue

@KaptainKhaos - To be fair to you, I’m pretty sure she only became that because of how bastardly evil Reed became. If she was leader from the start, there’d probably have been no issue 😂
