Kamala Khan is arguably the most popular character to come out of Marvel Comics in the last 20 years aside from Mile Morales, and with her very own Disney+ series on the horizon, Marvel is looking to capitalize on the character's popularity.
Marvel has announced that the Muslim teen heroine will be starring in a series of over-sized one-shots that will see her team up with various heroes and anti-heroes in some big league adventures. The series kicks off in July with the release of Ms. Marvel & Wolverine #1, which will see the young Avenger teaming up with Wolverine and a number of his X-Men pals like Cyclops, Storm, & Jean Grey.
The Synopsis for Issue 1 reads: "When a mysterious threat lands in New York City, Ms. Marvel takes matters into her own embiggened hands! But with Krakoan security/tech compromised, you can bet Wolverine and the X-Men won't be far behind! The best there is at what he does teams up with one of the Marvel Universe's most lauded heroes in an action-packed adventure for the ages!"
It's unclear if the series will continue with that title throughout or change it up to match Khan's new monthly allies. Other Marvel characters confirmed to be joining Ms. Marvel's Misadventures include Moon Knight & Venom, both characters who have recently been featured in their own live action adaptations.
The series will be brought to life by the very talented Jody Houser, who has previously worked on such Marvel titles as The Web of Black Widow, and Star Wars: Tie Fighter. She has also worked with other major publisher such as DC, IDW, & Dark Horse Comics.
In a recent interview, Houser had this to say about coming back to work at Marvel. "I'm thrilled to be back playing in the Marvel superhero sandbox, especially with a character as vital as Ms. Marvel. Teaming her up with some of the darker heroes of the 616 shows just how bright her light really is." Series editor Editor Mark Basso was quoted as saying, "Ms. Marvel is such a powerful and versatile member of the MU, and putting her in a huge scale adventure shoulder to shoulder with harder-edged heroes like Venom, Moon Knight, and Wolverine is going to maybe surprise some readers with her range. If you missed her earlier adventures, know this: Kamala Khan is a super hero. Full stop. And when you get her in the mix with a crew like this, you know something BIG is going down."
It's certainly an interesting concept to take a character that is known to be so youthful and full of optimism, and pair them with much darker and more violent heroes like those mentioned above. Will she prove to be the light they need to bring them back from the darkness?
