The new Ultimate Spider-Man series has proven to be vastly different than we expected, with an older Peter Parker gaining his powers decades after his Earth-616 counterpart was bitten by a radioactive spider.
Married with two children, Peter has so far struggled to get to grips with his newfound abilities and has been fighting crime in a plain black suit. That has some mysterious abilities and, like many of you, we're convinced that it's actually a symbiote!
In this first look at Ultimate Spider-Man #3, Spidey and his daughter use its unique abilities to figure out what he should look like as a Friendly Neighbourhood superhero.
He tries out several styles, including ones inspired by the Alien Suit, Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider attire, and the Iron Spider. Ultimately, though, it seems they go with the classic red and blue which has been adorning the title's covers from its launch.
"My love for this character is no secret to anyone," artist Marco Checchetto previously said of working on Ultimate Spider-Man. "As soon as I received Jonathan Hickman’s plot of the series, I was immediately fascinated with how he managed to create something truly fresh and new, while keeping the spirit and essence of the web-slinger intact."
"I really loved the dialogue and got chills drawing these scenes. We have the opportunity and privilege to create our version of Spider-Man, and for me, to create the entire design of the series."
On the cover below, we see Spider-Man teaming up with the new Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) as they battle the Ultimate version of Bullseye. That's a very cool costume design for the villain and we can't help but wish the mask had made it into Daredevil: Born Again.
In Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter won't be the only Parker embarking on new adventures and taking down super villains. The hero's beloved uncle Ben is an award-winning journalist, and alongside his trusted partner J. Jonah Jameson, he’ll pursue the truth of their corrupt world and the unrest that’s stirring around every corner - starting with discovering the identity and motives of the newly emerged Green Goblin.
