Uncanny Avengers Review

My thoughts on Marvel's Uncanny Avengers.

So I have been looking into comic series that have started over in both DC's New 52 and Marvel's NOW! launches and have found many really good reads. These include Nightwing, Flash, Aquaman, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Justice League from DC and Deadpool Killistrated, Superior Spider-Man (I know what you're thinking, but after issue 2 I have hope again...maybe), Savage Wolverine, and Deadpool. However, there is one title out currently from Marvel that has really caught my eye and inspired a new found hope for the Marvel Comics franchise.

UNCANNY AVENGERS!!!

At first, I was a little stand offish towards this title due to the cover featuring only three Avengers I was familiar with (Thor, Cap, and Wolverine) and the rest of the group being made up of X-Men or Brotherhood members, but since I will be giving Uncanny X-Men a chance when it releases, I thought what the heck I'll read it. Plus, that Deadpool Variant is just to great to pass up on.

Now I missed out on the events of AvX, but I'd like to get the compilation when it comes out. Anyways, what I have picked up from this series so far is that Charles Xavier is dead, Cyclops killed him and is now leading the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and Scarlett Witch played a big role in it all as well though not completely sure what it was.

Anyways...

Moving forward to what's going on, the Avengers are trying to settle down people's anger and fear of the mutant community after this most recent attack. Cap plans to achieve this by bringing in Havok to lead a group to boost people's confidence in mutants. His reasoning is that Alex Summers, aka Havok, is a mutant with a clean record who has worked for the government and has a prestigious degree.

Seconds after this offer is made to Alex, Avalanche goes rogue for no reason and kills many innocent people by collapsing a building on top of them. He then kills himself, which completely baffles Captain America.

Well, by the end of issue one essentially Rogue and Scarlett Witch are captured, Havok is an Avenger, people are terrified, and in the final panels it is revealed that Red Skull has dug up Xavier and plans to fuse his brain to his own giving him the powers of Xaiver.

Issues 2 and 3 are basically Red Skull implementing his master plan. People start slaughtering mutants under the mental persuasion of Skull. Even Thor ends up joining his "cause" by the end of 3, which brings about the supposed death of Wolverine (read the comic to find out). Basically, Red Skull is going to wipe mutants off the face of the earth and so far seems as if he will succeed. Looking forward to seeing what all plays out.

This is definitely a must read in my opinion. It's entertaining, action packed, and the story so far has been pretty good. The artwork is actually pretty good as well aside from Cap's weird fish scale looking shirt. It's a new fresh start on the Avengers that ties in well with both the X-Men and Avengers titles that are out there already and soon to come.

It would seem we will soon be seeing a face off between two of my favorite mutant siblings Cyclops and Havok...

Which I for one am greatly looking forward to. I also think that it's going to be interesting getting to see the Avengers bringing in past X-Men and Brotherhood members after the events of AvX. Sure to add a lot more confrontation and eventual come together moments within the series. Something I always enjoyed about the older X-Men comics.

All in all, I think this series has a good shot at becoming one of the better Marvel titles, and it's worth a glance. Should you find yourself with a little extra cash and needing something to read, I highly recommend Uncanny Avengers.

Hope you enjoy!

I really enjoy Uncanny Avengers but to me the best title Marvel has in Marvel now is Thor.

I've been reading a lot of Marvel now and have really enjoyed it including Superior Spider-Man. Out of the ones I have read Cable and the X-force is the only one I didn't like gave it till issue three doesn't do anything for me. I haven't read the new iron-man or Thunderbolts but heard those suck anyways. Maybe I'll read them but for now I'm happy with the comics I've been reading.

I agree with uncanny avengers but to you Rhino I recommend picking up Thor God of Thunder.

Venom? Really? I just can't get past the fact that Venom is Flash Thompson and kinda looks like Spawn.

@marvel72

I have seen covers that have him "back to the classic" style and honestly I don't know who's classic style they are referring but that ain't Venom lol. Venom was never that big originally. Venom's size and design were perfect in Amazing Spider-Man 316 and 317. IMO
