COMICS: MARVEL LEGACY Will Bring Back Classic Heroes, Original Numbering And More To Win Back Fans

It's not a reboot, but after spending years losing readers by alienating long term fans, Marvel will be going back to basics with Legacy, an initiative to return the Marvel Universe to its old self!

If you ask comic book fans both new and old what they dislike about Marvel, they'll more than likely mention constant relaunches, fan-favourite characters being benched for new versions, and hard to follow event stories which constantly change the status quo (until the next one comes along).

Well, that's about to change. Set to launch this Fall, Marvel Legacy kicks off in a 50-page one-shot issue by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic which sets the stage for what's to come. Story details have been revealed, but the image below by Joe Quesada points to heroes returning to their old looks and mantles. Newer heroes won't be vanishing as the plan is to "move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories."

Long running titles will revert to their legacy numbering (an end for constant new #1s then), while new trade dresses and corner box art is also on the way. Will this be enough to help improve sales and win over fans who have given up on the Marvel Universe? We'll just have to wait and see for now!

After the mess Marvel is pulling, this won't really fix it.

@BritishMonkey - If they can also set the entire timeline back to, say Secret Wars (Spidey 300-ish) they'd be onto something.

But over the past two decades Marvel has made it almost impossible to follow their continuity. A numbering change ain't gonna fix that.

It's kind of ironic that their film universe is so tightly run.

@TheCantilope - Awesome!!! I hope They don't get rid of all the new heroes and they bring the F4 back too because the Marvel Universe wouldn't be complete without them.
