So the WWE's Royal Rumble is upon us this weekend. I know this because I keep seeing the ads and how I can watch it on the WWE Network and there was a time I was a huge wrestling fan. I still watch a little but it's not the same. Since Vince more or less owns it all the excitement is gone. During the Monday Night Wars one of the best parts was when somebody showed up from another company. Starting with the NWO and going from there it was pre internet as we know it so the anticipation that somebody might show up was awesome, but alas, those days are basically gone and wrestling will never be the same. This got me thinking, what if comic book characters could jump ship like wrestlers used to do. Say you pick up the latest issue of Punisher and he's looking to take down a crime family with extreme prejudice as only the Punisher will when his line of fire is blocked by a familiar site but you can't believe you're seeing it. The Batmobile is in his way and Batman is walking towards him. He's come to work with Frank Castle to capture, not kill. The shots have been fired, Batman leaves DC for Marvel and the war is on. In response DC follows up with Invincible as the newest edition to the Teen Titans and Crossbones is brought on to the Suicide Squad. Marvel in turn starts the Rawhide Kid on a new run with his new partner Jonah Hex. Together they're going to try to set the west straight.....in more ways than one. Smaller companies are pillaged for their characters with the most potential and smaller characters within the two bigs are cast aside to find work with the smaller companies. The two bigs themselves, despite stripping the other books bare of their best, continue to try and lure characters from one another promising better written stories, merchandising, video game appearances and the possiblity of cartoons, televison shows or even live action movies. Think of how this could change the industry if it were possible. What do you guys think and what are some moves, big or small that you could envision?
