David Slade Updates On Daredevil

Slade has come forward via Twitter and confirms that despite the "continuation" tag, his movie will not have anything to do with the last one starring Ben Affleck. He also says that casting has not been discussed yet..

Despite previous reports that Fox's new Daredevil movie would be a continuation from the last one, albeit with a completely different cast, it seems not to be the case. David Slade tweeted the following..

Forgot to look at the internet for a few weeks and its a litany of false (and not so far off) rumours. So without breaking confidentiality, yes Daredevil, we have a great outline for a very strong character driven take on Mr Matt Murdock. It will bare no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast.

I guess that also debunks the Bradley Cooper/Garret Hedlund rumors. But he does say some of the rumors are not far off. My guess is that since it clearly isn't to do with casting that it refers to speculation that the plot of the new movie will follow Frank Miller's Born Again comic arc.

Once again I gotta defend that movie! I really thought it was good. Not great, but certainly not bad.

I liked the first movie a ton, I've never understood why there was all the hate. Then again, I only saw the directors cut, and I've never been the hugest DD reader..

The first one wasn't that bad. It was just popular to hate on Ben Affleck back then and people love to stick with trends. Now their sucking his balls just like DiCaprio's who was also popular to hate on back in the day. The worst part about the movie is Bulleye's extreme makeover. And I was like WTF? when they cast Duncan as King Pin, but after seeing the movie I can't really think of anybody that could do the part. People always want look-a-likes who can't act for shit to be in these movies. I wouldn't mind an Affleck sequel but I don't mind a reboot either. But if this dude isn't up to directing this well, FOX is onboard to screw things up, and they ditch that bad ass suit from the original movie... failure.

Bradley Cooper for Matt Murdock. He can definitely carry a movie like Daredevil, especially after the critical and financial success of Limitless.

I don't mind Michael C Hall too, but he's not a big name that'll attract money in the eyes of the studio.

"Early planning stages" seems like typical Fox euphemism for development hell to nowhere like with Fantastic Four.

Neo, I'm with you mostly. I actually like the updated Bullseye, other than the long coat. I liked Affleck, I liked Garner, loved Duncan as Fisk, thought Favreau as Foggy was great casting. I actually thought they captured Bullseye "killing" Elektra...the mood 'felt' the same way it did in the comic. They even nailed the religious undertones DD always had in the late 80s through mid-90s. The ONLY thing I didn't care for in the entire movie was the DD costume that looked like it belongs in some S&M swingers' club...

I still say if you take out the playground fight scene, it's a very cool movie.

So glad its not related to that Ben Affleck crap. Reboot = thumbs up. oh yeah......Chris Pine for DD please? Thanks Daredevil movie producers

And why the hell did they make Daredevil do things on their that not even Captain America could do? Lol

Right on with Bradley Cooper. A lot forget about the lawyer identity, and I think Cooper could be both DD and MM very well.

Don't like the reboot idea. The first film has faults but it's not bad. I'd rather they just make a standalone story that can use the first films origins and get on with it. No more origin stories. If they reboot then they've got to explain Kingpin too which is wasted time. I think everyone likes the directors cut and since its the only version Fox has available now I think it's become kind of the official version.

@MrNoFear when's the GL reboot coming?

A continuation but nothing to do with the first film...so a reboot? Or not? I'm confused. Oh well, at least Affleck isn't in it...

SentinelofLiberty lol I thought it was a nice change from the rubber costumes. But It really does feel like a comic book and I don't think it's nearly as bad as the rep it has. It's awesome when it comes on and he's bleeding on top of the church.

Chris Pine > MCH imo but alas we shall see, and don't get me wrong Ror The Directors Cut of the first one was epic and should have been the one released into mainstream cinemas, the Theatrical cut as it is known was glitchy and the story (for me anyway) didn't fit together properly at all but again imo.

As for casting as i said Chris Pine would do MM/DD really well MCH not really sure tbh, but i would like to see Micheal Clarke Duncan return as the kingpin (Haters just be quiet man did a great job last time out)
and if they dare bring in anyone to play elektra again make it someone who is actually gonna you know fight. opinions welcome on that. also they have deffo gotta bring in Stick somewhere.

Michael C. Hall, Ewan McGregor, Chris Pine or Anderson Davis as Daredevil

James Gandolfini as The Kingpin
Danny Huston or Ralph Fiennes as The Owl
Mads Mikkelsen as Zoltan Drago / Mr. Fear
Charlie Hunnam as Richard Fisk / Rose
And
Michael Fassbender as Bullseye

I didn't like the first one, and I probably won't like this one. Daredevil needs a director like Clint Eastwood.

CapFan79

They should call this one "The Man Without Fear" much like TDK. This should be a sequel. They don't have to allude to the first, just not contradict it. This way people who like the first can accept it as a sequel and those that didn't can assume it's a reboot.

I hate Kevin Smith but loves his Daredevil graphic novel. I've always loved Mysterio. Sony probably owns him due to Spidey but maybe they can use elements from that and use Mr. Fear? I just hope it's decent or we'll never get another DD.

" It will bare no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way."

That's great news. It's like a continuation, but not related to the first in ANY way? Sounds like how the Wolverine was SUPPOSED to be like. Either way, that sounds good.

If bulleyes is in it put the comic book version with the mask on him and not a sleezy leather jacket like Colin Farrell even though I did like his acting but the costume can go way harder. And that's for all CBM's!

I watched Daredevil recently and I must say, it was awful. The casting was wrong for almost every character. I like Colin Farrell, but an Irish Bullseye was just terrible, would have been better if he had an american accent. Affleck, yeah people like to hate him, but for good reason. As a lead actor, he is bad. I like him in supporting roles but he can't maintain a movie. Garner was just bad. I didn't even like Duncan as Kingpin, he didn't seem menacing. The outfits were lame, the soundtrack was atrocious. I'd rather watch Punisher Warzone, at least that had someone get stabbed with a broken bone.

It's just like Fox to NOT reboot.
First Class is not a reboot.
Wolverine is not a reboot.
And of course Daredevil is not a reboot.

They just do things as they please.
They frick continuation.
They frick fans in the arse.

But they do NOT reboot.

@Ror: Nice find. I like the first Daredevil. And I like the costume very much. It's like MSJ to have the costumes spot on for his superheroes while keeping it close enough to reality. And Michael Clark Duncan kicked arse!
