Avengers: Infinity War was a great film despite its many storytelling issues that are kept hidden by humor. It’s one of those annoying things Marvel tends to do with its movies, therefore, we may never come across that one spectacular film in the universe.
The best aspect of Infinity War, in my book, is Thanos. The way the Mad Titan was handled was almost perfect, something I didn’t see coming. For the first time, it proves that Marvel knows how to do villains on the big screen, and I’m expecting a constant improvement going forward.
Now, since Marvel has shown its hand and delivered to the world the most powerful bad guy in the Marvel universe, one has to wonder how DC and Warner Bros. plan to respond with Darkseid.
It’s no secret that Darkseid is the devil of the DC Cinematic Universe. He’s patiently waiting for his time to attack Earth with all his forces. The problem is, it would be madness for Warner Bros. to follow Marvel and humanize Darkseid.
Through and through, Darkseid has always been a character with pure evil in his heart. To humanize him is to go against everything he believes in. I would like to go out on a limb and say most DC fans would prefer a character who wants to destroy anything within his range for selfish reasons instead of believing it’s the right thing to do.
Bear in mind that Darkseid's ultimate goal is to remove all free will, and to do that, he must first conquer the entire universe. That alone should be a good enough premise to build around Darkseid, and from there, just turn him into the evilest and diabolical being alive.
That doesn’t mean being pure evil makes it impossible for the writers not to deliver a one-dimensional character. Look at the Joker from the Dark Knight, he was a man with a destructive impulse. He loved no one, he cared about no one, not even himself, yet he wasn’t one-dimensional.
You see, any character no matter their traits can be brought to life in a wonderful way once great writing is involved. Unfortunately, the writers Warner Bros. have on staff haven’t done a great job in that department, so maybe, just maybe, new blood is needed.
