DEADPOOL Update From Director Tim Miller

DEADPOOL Update From Director Tim Miller

It's not dead yet, folks (but things don't look too promising either)! Via The Goon's Kickstarter page, Deadpool director Tim Miller reveals that there's still hope for the "Merc with a Mouth" at 20th Century Fox.

With Mark Millar just recently joining FOX as a Creative Consultant, a role that he's described as being akin to Joss Whedon over at Marvel, we just knew that we'd be getting some Deadpool news soon. However, the movie hasn't been mentioned by Millar once, leading many to believe it's just not a part of FOX's plans anymore.

However, current director of the movie, Tim Miller (founder of Blur Studio), also attached to The Goon (just recently Kickstarted by producer David Fincher) took his time to respond to a fan on the Kickstarter page when asked if the Deadpool movie is moving forward or not.

Here's what he had to say:

DEADPOOL: We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that--I'm confident--would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens--all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead. "

So FOX hasn't completely let go of the idea of a Deadpool movie but it doesn't look like it's in active development at this point either. The R-rated script leaked and is known to be pretty amazing, praised by reviewers and fans alike. Test footage evidently has been shot and could (hopefully) be released to the public later on similar to what Marvel plans to do with Ant-Man. The movie was once set to get into production in 2012 but seeing how that's not happening we can all just hope 2013 is the year of the "Merc with a Mouth".

OMG, this is so cool!!!! SO COOL!!!!!!!!!

I had almost lost hope for the Deadpool movie... I've read the script and it's just GLORIOUS, it has everything a DP movie needs. Wade Wilson is my second favorite character from Marvel (only after Loki) and he's been treated so badly in the movies... This movie just needs to happen!

Great find, btw, and I hope we'll hear some good news soon enough!

I'm not necessarily a fan of deadpool but if and when this films released and its a certificate 15 or above i'll watch it. They just need to realise that a violent film will find a significant audience to warrant a sequel for example Sin city, Expendables,Blade etc.

Please make this happen. But set it aside from the rest of the X-Men connections it has from the past.

If you are to add this Deadpool into continuity which is what Millar was hired to do (listen up, Mark), then have it be from an alternate timeline and maybe we get our first glimpse of the Merc with the Mouth in a brief scene in Days of Future Past, then follow this movie off of the story arc created from that movie.

If Fox hasnt done it yet, its because they dont believe in this proyect.

They have The Wolverine, the new X-men series, and Fantastic four.

they wont release this in 2020, and less with Ryan, with 40 yeas old or something

Ryan Reynolds has a horrible build for deadpool, maybe the mouth but not body..i agree with JonathaNisMagnuM.

Plus, fox studios makes total shit. Millar has said he wants to integrate into MCU if possible. I am thinking we are going to see the new first class be a timeline correction effort al-la Star Trek..

Deadpool is still at Fox? Crap. I kinda wish Marvel would get the rights back. I would love to see him in the MCU.

So many people saying it'll never happen. Hoping is free, and supporting a movie is easy but might be productive.

Fox is 3 for 5, and arguably nobody has had the motivation of Reynolds to go out and get his own writers and screen for directors, especially considering he's the actor but I think will end up producing.

Not everything has to go back to marvel for it to work. Anyway, even if they got the rights back its not like THEY are more likely to make a movie, or even use him, considering how closely tied his entire existance as a character is tied to mutants, Wolverine, the Weapon X backstory, and the Xmen. Unless they want to forgo all that but considering how faithful MCU is to their characters, its not likely to happen. Even if nobody related him to baraka-pool.

Another chance for Singer and co., cuz from Origins to FC, there was an exceptionally high jump in quality. Not so much maybe as a cbm, but just as a film, impressive.

"This is as much use as Ryan Reynolds spouting this shit. Everyone involved can [frick] off unless they give us some actual insight and confirmation. FOX can [frick] off as well. [frick] this movie, it's never going to be made. Script was awesome, only read the intro which was amazing. But it will never happen, Reynolds is too busy playing 1083104839 comic characters and destroying movies with the shitty directors and films. [frick] you [frick] this [frick] grif [frick] all of you."

Well apparently the Avengers have no interest in Deadpool. Oh well, he probably wont hear a word of it over the Mexican music.

Eh, I don't even care about this anymore. Deadpool will never happen, and if it does it's going to suck. I think I'll happily wait for Thor 2, Captain America 2, Iron Man 3, Avengers 2 and Spider-Man 2.

I hope Fox does go in the direction of giving Deadpool is own solo movie. As long as Fox hires a great director. I do not want Deadpool to flop at the box office.

He should talk to Mark Millar to see if he can help get the film up and running. I mean Deadpool is a franchise in itself even though he has ties to X-Men, he doesn't necessarily have to be an intricate part of the X-Men film franchise.

Bottom line Fox, give up the money to make the movie 100 million should do, use the script from the Zombieland guys, and make a shit ton of money back. It's that easy.

Need someone other thran Reynolds for the part. Personally sick of seeing him in cbm. Plus as a pretty boy fox will [frick] it up by keeping thue mask off so women go see the movie.

I say Seann William Scott. Can play the sarcastic part easily. He is generally well built and not so big of a star that he would have to show his face and give a better representation of the character

Yea,since Ryan is Green Lantern..Sean William Scott would pull off DP nicely.
Save the $ Reynolds would get & put it on the screen with cool action scenes.

The article caused a storm on Twitter, including a lot of Liefeld tweets, describing the situation, the role of Mark Millar and also Tom Rothman, who was previously preventing the movie from happening.

Lemme get this straight. You got a director ready to put his all into the project. And actor who loves the character and wants him done right or not at all. A praised script that almost everyone agreed captured all things Deadpool. The director and actor both know the budget needs to stay down to be R so no fights there. And FOX instead of capitalizing on the praise and the excitement, is dragging their feet? And Ryan Reynolds has not been the problem in either CBM he has been in. The guy was solid in both roles.
