Will there be a third Deadpool solo film? Variety caught up with actor Ryan Reynolds, director David Leitch, and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to assess the chances.
Catching up with Reynolds first, the 41-year-old Canadian actor stated that he was sure Deadpool 3 would eventually happen but he's currently too exhausted to even think about it. "At this point I don’t want to think about it. But down the road, I’m sure we’ll figure it out."
Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese had a more definitive stance. "We took great pains to try to set it up in this movie at the end," teased the duo about future installments. However, they then shifted focus to X-Force rather than Deadpool 3. "So I think you’ll have some nice combination of those characters that you see at the end of this movie forming X-Force."
The X-Force spinoff will be written and directed by Drew Goddard, who was hired by Fox in September 2017. Filming is slated to begin this October. The Disney-Fox merger is expected to be finalized by the Summer of 2019.
