Walt Disney Studios has released the first official clip from Guy Ritchie's upcoming live-action adaptation of the animated classic, Aladdin, which stars Mena Massoud (Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan) as the titular hero, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Princess Jasmine, and 2x Academy Award-nominee Will Smith (Gemini Man) as the magical Genie.

The first clip showcases a bonding moment between Aladdin and the Genie as the latter coaches the diamond in the rough on how to his first wish, which, according to the animated film, will be to turn him a prince.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Scott says, “The main conversation is structure versus freedom that I think is obviously is the metaphor for her journey as a character. If she’s wearing something that’s structured and beautiful, it can’t just be the sake of it looking great, it needs to be connected to the story.

Jasmine (Naomi Scott) is seen here with her handmaiden Dalia (Nasim Pedrad), an original character for the movie, while sporting her classic turquoise outflit. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson breaks it down, “We talked a lot about the iconography and imagery that would be relevant to the character and we really love the idea of this peacock motif. We talked about Jasmine as being trapped in a golden cage — she has to live by the rules of this court but she’s struggling to do things her own way and find her own power … she really wants to support and fight for her country and have a sense of freedom.

With a desire to see what's going on outside her palace walls, Jasmine (Naomi Scott) wears something a little more casual. This scene is likely moments before she meets the street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud). Scott says, “What was very important was that I can move in it because obviously she goes on the run. There’s this balance of feeling that it’s from the royal household but obviously it’s not royalty.

Scott goes full princess here as potential suitors flock to the palace to impress her, "This was the one time for this moment it felt right to have that corset, it completely straightens her up and it’s the first time we see her going from running around in the mud with Aladdin to being absolutely wow … so the outfit was very uncomfortable but incredibly impressive and worth it.

Scott goes for a classic look here as she's wooed by the mysterious Prince Ali (Mena Massoud), “The color and the material and the detail just brings it into a whole different world. That’s where you get the things that clash and come together and create something new, so that’s what I loved about this outfit.”

The Genie (Will Smith) coaches Aladdin (Mena Massoud) on how to be a prince and how to act like royalty, which should make for a comical experience for the viewing audience.

Aladdin (Mena Massoud) in his natural element, making an escape with Jasmine (Naomi Scott), who's likely hoping not to be recognized by any of the townspeople.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) looking bewildered in a scene from Guy Ritchie's Aladdin. She'll reportedly be sporting ten different outfits throughout the course of the film.

Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) will, of course, be up to no good as he plots to obtains the Genie's limitless powers for himself. Here we see him with his iconic cobra staff.

"You go high, I'll go low." - Aladdin (Mena Massoud) pulls off some magic of his own as he helps Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) evade recognition.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott), Dalia (Nasim Pedrad), and The Sultan (Navid Negahban) prepare to meet the mysterious Prince Ali (Mena Massoud), which is undoubtedly an important for the hero-in-disguise.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) seems intrigued about meeting the mysterious Prince (Mena Massoud) and likely a little curious about his sudden rags-to-riches transformation.

The good-hearted Aladdin (Mena Massoud) does what he can to protect the villagers from the evil that intends to do them harm in Agrabah.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) makes quite the entrance and is sure to become a quick fan-favorite once the movie opens at the end of May.

Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) will enlist the diamond in the rough, Aladdin (Mena Massoud), and send him into the Cave of Wonders with nefarious intentions.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) consults with her handmaiden Dalia (Nasim Pedrad) about something that seems important to the plot of the film.

Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) meets the street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud). Is it love at first sight?

The good-hearted Aladdin (Mena Massoud) unleashes the Genie (Will Smith), who, of course, has the power to grant any person, that rubs his lamp, three all-encompassing wishes.

Aladdin (Mena Massoud) listens intently as Genie (Will Smith) coaches him on how to make himself more appealing to the Princess of Agrabah (Naomi Scott) and her father (Navid Negahban).

Future lovebirds Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) flee on foot from presumably the palace's security?

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.

@L0RDbuckethead - I believe Little Mermaid is apparently starting filming early next year from what I've read, so that should come sometime 2021 I'm guessing.

@Nerdman3000 - Yep. I'll do ya one better:

They got Lea Michele to play (and sing as) Ariel for the Hollywood Bowl musical adaption of The Little Mermaid. And... rumor has it she may be in the running for the Live-Action adaption.

I'm sold on Will Smith I think his personality and presence will make for a fun Genie and he's different enough from Robin Williams for any comparisons! However I'm still not sold on the Aladdin guy, he certainly looks the part but sadly his acting still hasn't really won me over yet with clips and trailers they've shown! Hopefully he'll do a good job and win me over when the films released! :)
