How Will DOCTOR STRANGE Bring Magic Into the MCU? Kevin Feige (Sort of) Explains

Marvel Studios' president of production is still at it - he now talks about how magic will be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by way of Doctor Strange and how the film will explain it.

During yesterday's Captain America: The Winter Soldier press junket, Badass Digest also got ahold of Kevin Feige and also pressed the Marvel Studios honcho for an update on the Doctor Strange film. More precisely, the site owner asked Feige how the big-screen adaptation of the Sorcerer Supreme will introduce magic and wizardry into the mostly tech- or cosmic-based Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Are you watching the Cosmos series?” asked Feige. “That’s magic, [the quantum physics]. It’s unbelievable. If somebody knew how to tap into that stuff, what’s the difference between that and magic? You don’t get into it in Harry Potter, but if a scientist went to Hogwarts he’d find out how some of that stuff is happening! We’re not going to spend a lot of time on that, but there will be some of that. And particularly for a character like Strange, who goes from a man of science to a man of faith and who traverses both worlds. And sometimes there won’t be an answer! Sometimes he’ll want an answer - 'How is this happening?! - and nothing.” The producer added, Doctor Strange needs to be a Ditko/Kubrick/Miyazaki/The Matrix mind-trip.”

As reported in a post updated earlier today, Kevin Feige also addressed the recent Doctor Strange director shortlist: Scott Derrickson (Sinister), Mark Andrews (Brave), and Jonathan Levine (50/50). “We’ve met with all of [those three],” he told Slash Film. “Some of those three are not in contention anymore. Some of those three we’re still talking with and there are many others. We have not narrowed it down as much as the internet thinks. I wish we had.” What do you think?

So he uses quantum physics instead of supernatural magic like in the comics? Really??? I HATE all this "grounded/realistic" crap Marvel keeps doing. He's the Sorcerer Supreme! Let him use magic or don't have a Dr. Strange movie at all.

If they think audiences won't respond well to a plot about magic in the real world, well, they certainly liked the Harry Potter movies!

Seriously, I think the only good movies Marvel is making right now are Winter Soldier and Avengers 2. Marvel Studios has really fallen.

They were so good with movies like Iron Man and Captain America, but ever since Iron Man 3, they've somehow managed to cliche themselves. GotG = Thor 2. Just dumb 1 liners that aren't funny and bastardization of the characters. I want movies like Iron Man 1, it had some humor, but was serious when it needed to be. Thor 2 never was serious the entire movie, and Dr. Strange sounds just the same.

F*** you Marvel, you don't understand why your first movies were so much more popular then your newer ones. I'm not talking about how much $$$ they made, I'm talking about do people really really like them, the way they liked Iron Man 1 and Avengers. And no, they don't. Stuff like Thor 2 is a one time in a lifetime watch. Never again.

Marvel needs to let magic be magic and stop trying so hard to explain it. That's why it's 'magic'...

@BarackObama

Most every Magical philosophy throughout history has referred to the quantum field & subtle forces and none of them accept Magic as "supernatural". Can you elaborate what your gripes are?
