Following the movie's premiere last night, the social media embargo for Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has lifted, and the first reactions are now online.

Initial word on this latest MCU adventure is mostly positive (that's the norm, to be fair), with Sam Raimi's direction and Elizabeth Olsen's performance coming in for a lot of praise. As expected, it sounds like the sequel leans heavily into horror elements, and several critics mention how dark, terrifying and violent the action becomes in the second act.

Not everyone was won over, but we didn't come across any overwhelmingly negative responses. Some do seem to feel that characterization takes a backseat to spectacle, and things get a little convoluted. Also, it sounds like those expecting major surprises beyond what's already been confirmed might be disappointed!

Check out some Tweets below, and be sure to check back a little later on when the full review embargo lifts for more in-depth reactions.
