DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS: Bruce Campbell Appears To Confirm Planned Cameo In The Sequel

Where Sam Raimi goes, actor Bruce Campbell often follows. That explains rumours of a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the actor has now commented. Be warned that spoilers follow!

When rumours of Thor's brother, Balder, appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness first started doing the rounds, it's fair to say many fans just didn't get it. Later, we'd learn that he might be a member of the interdimensional Illuminati, though it seemed a little odd to expect moviegoers to care about a random Asgardian they've never seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before!

Recently, it's been suggested that longtime Sam Raimi collaborator Bruce Campbell will play Balder, explaining the character's inclusion to some extent. Whether he's made the cut after reshoots supposedly filmed to make the Doctor Strange sequel a little more star-studded is hard to say, but the actor reportedly addressed his involvement during a recent Q&A with a fan who met him at a convention.

"The deal with Doctor Strange is interesting," Campbell is reported to have said. "A majority of the film was reshot extensively, so I have no idea what's in there and what isn’t. I did a cool scene with a character that's been beloved for years, and...we’ll have to see what ends up in the movie. I don’t know if it's still in there. It's a pretty cool part."

We'd be surprised if Balder hasn't been cut, though it would be a shame to leave the iconic Evil Dead actor on the cutting room floor. Calling Thor's half-brother "beloved" might be a stretch, so we can't discount the possibility that he's actually playing someone else entirely in the upcoming movie.

It's unlikely we'll find out what the plan is until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actually hits the big screen. While the latest trailer appeared to confirm the validity of several plot leaks, those reshoots could have added and changed a lot that not even those leakers have been made aware of.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released in theaters on May 6!

I've heard fhe Balder rumor, but it'd be much better if he played another Dr. Strange. Maybe the 616 version

@Dredd97 - I've heard the Balder the Brave rumor too. There is a listing of rumored characters playing Illuminati with actors attached and Balder is one of characters the source didn't attach an actor to. My guess is Bruce Campbell is playing Balder and the 'beloved' character he is referring to is Patrick Stewart's Professor X.

I've been waiting for Marvel Studios to adapt Balder into live-action since he was supposed to originally appear in Thor: The Dark World. I was hoping it would be something more than a glorified cameo but since its rumored the Illuminati die in the film there's always the chance another Balder surfaces in a future film. I just hope Bruce doesn't play him for laughs.

Wonder who he is gonna be? Is it just some random character like in the Raimi trilogy? Some actually named marvel character (maybe finally get that Mysterio appearence). Or who knows, maybe he cameos as Ash, lol.

"I did a cool scene with a character that's been beloved for years"

When the zombie Scarlet Witch is about to kill America Chavez, a chainsaw goes through the chest of the witch... Then, we see Ash.

@Repian - it certainly sounded like a tease for Ash to me.

“Calling Thor's half-brother "beloved" might be a stretch…”

I’m not particularly familiar with the Marvel take on the character, but being beloved was pretty much the mythological Balder’s whole deal.

I feel like the whole point of reshoots was to get Tom Cruise and maybe 1 or 2 other people.

It would be f*ckin awesome if his cameo is a bit where we see him fighting Marvel Zombies.

Sony missed their chance at making him their Stan Lee. Come on MCU! Pick up where Raimi leaves off! Is that the phrase? English is my 12th language

He would make a great Dr. Strange variant. Or even a Tony Stark. Maybe that old Mysterio he was cast as.

You have Sam Raimi directing a movie with Marvel Zombies in it...not having Ash would be one of the biggest wastes in genre's history.
I know Ash Williams's rights are a nightmare to get, but just have Bruce with one hand and a blue shirt making a brief appareance.

Come on Marvel, bring us Ash. Why not have him show up to slay some zombies in a quick cameo and we all go home happy. Hail to the King Baby!!!
