The differences between Eastern culture and Western culture are evident everywhere and video games are not the exception. Just for example:

Resident Evil(1) vs. Tomb Raider: The protagonists of both games are smart, strong and beautiful women. Both handle weapons than any army would like to have and they use this weapons against all kinds of zombies, mosnters, animals, and sometimes even against human enemies.
The puzzles have to be solved in different ways, but we can be sure that we have to pass at least 5 times through the same room to solved it and continue the game.

The continuity and the intensity in the histories in both games are some of the main differences. Jill is one of the best members of S.T.A.R.S.and is dedicated to doing his duty, Lara is an archaeologist who follows the footsteps of his father and eventually saves the world with their discoveries.

And as expected both games have a number of films trying to capitalize the success of these franchises, but well... I am sure that you have your opinion of these movies

There are many games that can be compared. I showed some in the picture but we never end talking about the differences and similarities.

Both countries produce amazing to absolutely horrible video games. Neither wins in my opinion, it's like asking who makes the best comic books, DC or Marvel? They all have their pros and cons, but it's too general to really pinpoint anything specific.

@Drakehorse

And you do know that Chris Redfield was in Resident Evil 1, right?

Yes I Know... I was talking about similar things between the games, and unlike Resident Evil, Lara has a monopoly on leadership in her game.

One of the thinks I like in the RE saga is the gallery of characters who have the franchise.

Both are good, no one has an monolopy.

Spock, Drakehorse I think means Lara has a monopoly on her game, as in she's the only you can play with.

Even still Drake, this is too generalized to pin point anything. You could do, Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat I suppose, but I'm not really feeling this debate.

If you really want to highlight the difference between how the two countries handle their games, look at RPGs. Western RPGs are often realistic, sometimes gritty, focused on using the highest technology available. They're also (more often) non-linear, open world, stories involving the player making moral choices with vivid consequences.
Japanese RPGs are usually detailed, linear stories with very specific emotions they try to evoke, and highly detailed set piece style construction, but where the player gets to make absolutely no choices.

An example of the characters? Take the gritty male version of Commander Shephard from Mass Effect and contrast him to . . . oh, almost any leading male from a Final Fantasy game: no grit, often girlish and overtly emotional, or angsty.

Neither is inherently better, but the difference in style and cultural preference is palpable.
