Could MODOK really be the new villian in Iron Man 3????

Iron Man 3 has not been in production for a long time, but already photos that have been leaked from the set have given us an eye into just what writer/director Shane Black has in store for us. In late May a photographer snapped a photo of Iron Patriot on set (click here to see who is wearing the armor), and now it's been revealed that another one of the evil corporations from the comics has found its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

iO9 holds the new images, which show that Advanced Idea Mechanics, also known as AIM. Will play a role in the movie. While this would be meaningless to anyone not familiar with the comics, AIM is best known as the company that experimented on one of its technicians, George Tarleton, and turned him into MODOK (which stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing). Below you will find the set photos as well as an image of MODOK.

Those who keep up with news about the Marvel movies may note that this isn't the first time that MODOK has been brought up in connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the release of Captain America: The First Avenger last summer, the writers said in an interview that they would love to make the floating giant head you see above be the villain in Captain America 2 (and have Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage play him). It's highly unlikely that MODOK will be playing a role in either Iron Man 3 or Captain America 2, but it will be interesting to figure out why Shane Black is using AIM. Perhaps that will be the company that created the Extremis nanovirus? Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau and James Badge Dale. The sequel will arrive in theaters on May 3, 2013 and you can read more about it in our Blend Film Database.

AIM will be a Lab Company for the story in Iron Man 3. Just as SHIELD filled the role of an Intelligence Agency in Iron Man. Meaning -- their "evil" intentions may not arise in this film. Maybe for .

That's a possibility. But I think AIM will have a role. But as nothing more than a military contractor (replacing Hammer Industries).

Why would anyone want MODOK anyway? For the lulz? He's neither tragic nor cool, nor interesting, just looks like a throwaway bit of artwork that Kirby unfortunately kept.

They are pulling out all the stops with Iron Man 3, it seems, especially since Kevin Feige has said it is where the much speculated-about "phase two" begins.

Mandarin is probable, Iron Patriot is guaranteed, AIM is guaranteed, War Machine is more than probable, and MODOK.... well I think we can expect an extreme makeover if he is depicted.

Come on, this is a character whose name is an acronym for "Metal Organism Designed Only for Killing". That said, he happens to be the leader of AIM most of the time, which has some interesting implications. With "Extremis" being loosely adapted, perhaps the central idea will be a technological revolution around artificial intelligence. While yes, this random nobody George Tarleton was human, he might as well be just a robot for all that we care.

In my opinion, the only way MODOK would work is if he is an artificial intelligence that inhabits a mobile construct, a robotic body that may not even be humanoid in design. I anticipate an exchange between MODOK and Jarvis somewhere in there.

MODOK will likely be in Captain America 2. I think he's a very extreme character -- something refreshing to see on screen. Eventually Marvel will move into more fantasy-heavy realms (The Watcher, Guardians of the Galaxy, Kree Supreme Intelligence). Just browse through MODOK pictures online. Part of the fun with these films is seeing surreal, I-can't-believe-they-put-him-in-this-movie characters. Thanos?

I'm still not completely on board with Thanos. It made sense if you only look at the events of "the Avengers", but are we really going to see him professing his undying love for Death? Is Death going to actually be a person, or just some schizo illusion Thanos is seeing?

A giant floaty head with stubby arms and legs is completely impractical - how the hell can he kill anything with anything but his little forehead ray? There's extreme and then there's downright stupid. I don't want to see Howard the Duck.

Marvel proved you wrong before and are set to do it again. Have fun with your pessimistic attitude. Get the right side of your brain checked up too.

Proved me wrong about what? Where's this hostility coming from?

I don't come into these conversations to fight with you but you always make snarky remarks. Anyway, don't you remember the little argument we had over Loki's the-unnamed army?

Ah, that one. Yeah, I thought is sounded stupid referring to the Chitauri as "minions of Thanos" - you sounded like a broken record because you wouldn't word it any differently. As it turns out, the Chitauri were exactly that, and I was proven wrong.

But this is a whole 'nother can of worms.

And I'm always a snarker.

Well there is no way MODOK is appearing in the films! I mean, who the hell wants to see some mother f-ing big headed freak on film anyway?

@Tainted87

Okay, I know I get repetitive -- but I wasn't sure exactly which race Loki's army was -- but I was confident they were, uh, "minions of Thanos" :P

@PredatorRIsing

There's been talk of MODOK featuring in one of these film. They can always go the Ultimate Universe route. Marvel is capable. Don't worry. None of the production budget is coming out of your pocket.

I think seeing a modernized version of him in Cappy 2 is way more likely.
But this is a good way to introduce AIM prior to that film.

It's not Iron Patriot, it's War Machine! His armor is just repainted. The dude in the suit is just a stunt guy.
