A while back a friend and I wrote a list of Lego games that we would play if they came out – just for fun though, and we never expected for any of them to actually get made. Anyway that list included, and I kid you not, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Avengers and the X-Men. Seeing as those have all been made (Avangers and X-Men fused into one), maybe the developers were thinking along the same lines. So I had another think about what franchises would make great Lego games.
Ok, anecdote over, now for the list:
The Matrix
The Matrix Trilogy has never really had a quality videogame adaptation; now is the time. Being a trilogy it lends itself perfectly to Lego games in the style of Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. It has a big cast of heroes and plenty of bad-guys. The Matrix is famous for its stylish action sequences that could be inventively Lego-fied; the addition of bullet time would make this unlike any other Lego game.
Star Trek
Again, as with the Matrix, if you’re looking for a great Star Trek game you’re choice is rather limited. There is a plethora of alien worlds and races, not to mention several incarnations of the Enterprise and her crew – just imagine a Pickard and Spock team-up. So the potential is there, and Traveller’s Tales would no doubt do a great job with the franchise.
Dr. Who
I’m sure the BBC would jump, or ‘double jump’, (sorry, that was an awful joke) at the cash such a game would generate. As with Star Trek the choice of worlds on which the levels could be set is truly endless. You’ve got 50 years of storylines to plunder for material!
Game of Thrones
When you play the Lego Game of Thrones, you built it or you die. With the HBO television series being such a huge hit, the time is right for Travellers Tales to release a videogame version. When you consider the awesomeness that is Game of Thrones, it’s a little disappointing that the official games released for this series have been very average indeed. The franchise is simply crying out for a great videogame – why not Lego?
70s & 80s Cop Shows
Obviously there are a lot of these to choose from and the nostalgia factor would also be a pretty good marketing tool. But while this one is extremely unlikely it would perhaps be the most comedic. The thought of having Starsky and Hutch solving crimes with Thomas Magnum in a Lego Hawaii is just priceless.
