DeathNote Live Cast (by the SOULEATER)

A westernized movie adaptation of the animated series Death Note by Yours Truly, IF it were ever to be made...

Let me also stress, that I know these have all white people in it, thats the idea, I've seen scores and scores of Death Note Fancasts with Zack Efron to Tom Felton being casted as Light to Justin Long being L. And i hate them, SO i'm doing that kind of casting, IF they were to be done right, with people that could do the parts well and motivate the audience, and an audience that wasn't just the fan base.

First of all, Zack Efron playing Light? NO!!!

zac efron light photo: Zac Efron Light Yagami zacefronlightyagami.jpg

NO! and NO!!!!

Now that that's out of my system, who I would choose as who.

As far as directors go, I'd like to say David Finch, director of Se7en, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Zodiac. Good dark mysteries.

or

Guy Ritchie, also good at handling dark tones in his films, and if he did it right, with his mixture of brilliant camera work and indicating a movies feel, this could be a big one. (Notable for works such as the Sherlock Holmes films.

For the live action cast.

I choose Gaspard Ulliel as Light Yagami.

Light Yagami

Light Red

He's got the suave and seemingly well meaning young lad type in his arsenal, as well as whipping out the bat-sh** crazyness that KIRA has, and as we know with Kira, the eye's have it, the emotion, the cunning, the saying all of that without uttering a word, and Gaspard can do that very well.

Now for L, his foil and the worlds greatest and perhaps most eccentric detective, I choose Nicolas Hoult,

L Lawlet

since he was a child actor, Nicolas has astounded me with his ablity to act well and even convincingly play an american, and can go from being a loveable nice guy to a really...really....weird person, or a downright creepy son of a gun, and this guy I trust to do the part well. As said before, to be the main people in Deathnote, you need the eyes, convey who you are with the eyes, and when he bugs them out, well...he's got it.

L

Now for Misa Amane

I choose Kristen Prout, she's a good actress so she won't be out of place, but can also play a bubbly funny ditz likened to Misa, I haven't found the best pictures to prove my point resplendence wise so I implore you to please google her to see what I mean when I say she'd be a good choice.

Misa

Misa Aname

Misa-Misa

misa2

for Light Yagami's father Soichiro, I choose Josh Brolin. He was actually iffy to me, if you can find another actor better suited your free to suggest.

Soichiro

For his task force for catching Kira, I choose Jackson Rathbone as agent Matsuba

Photobucket

and Jon Berthal from the Walking Dead as Agent Aizawa, you'll know how good his acting is if you've seen the WD show.

aizawa

Going into Season 2,

For the part of NEAR, the prodigy detective second to L,
I choose Asa Butterfield.

His credentials include the boy in striped pajama's, the show Merlin, and the recent holiday movie HUGO.

Near2

Near1

for his rival Mello, I choose Jamie Campbell Bower

Mello

for the second hand to Kira, District Prosecutor Mikami, I choose Cillian Murphy

Mikami

I'm pretty sure everyone can imagine him going from the cool cold creepy air that we see him having in Batman Begins and Crane, to the BAT SH** Crazy "DELETE ! DELETE! DELETE!!!!" Kira.

for Kira's supposed partner and future Bride as he becomes the "god of the new world" Takeda
I choose Mary Elizabeth Whinstead.

Takedaco

Now for what I've been saving for last, the Shemigami, the kind of animation i want used on them should be likened to say the creatures in JJ Abrams aliens, that kind of realistic detail to make it extra creepy and reminiscent of the actual actors faces, like Hugo Weavings red skull face.

Now do all that...for Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, even if you didn't doctor the Shimigami's face to resemble his a tad, just hearing that voice come out of that face...doesn't it just pour you a piping hot cup of *SHIVERS*

Ryuk

for the Shimigami attached to Misa, Rem, I choose the voice of Shohreh Aghdashloo, somehow that voice emanating from a Shimigami feels right.

Rem

So that's my take, You owe me your Soul.

@Demonhunter15 Thank you very much, one of the top reasons I chose him.

@MrSuperheromoviefan Yes, thats the idea, white people, this IS a westernized death note, and if you'll see by my explaination this is one if it were done right. I'm yet to find a good Japanese actor fitting the qualifications of Light who could also be translatable enough to an English audience as a likable main character, until said time, I'm working with this as everyone else who's casted either Chase Crawford or Efron or Tom Felton as him, only with solid reason by behind my choices other then looks, and take in mind that L and his prodigies at wammy's house are NOT Japanese.

Now agreeably this is a cast that rather DICTATES that it should be portrayed by Japanese actors at least from Light Yagami's side of things, I'm giving you that one, my FMA casts and Naruto Casts not so much. But again, unless you produce a good, english speaking suplement for said choices, please take your comment as adhered and stowed away.

@TheSoulEater - What would you think about a asian Steve Rogers? Stupid right? That's how I look it. Also L is a quarter Japanese.

i have no clue what this is but u should teach others how to cast a manga fancast. i hate seeing manga fancasts theyre always bad IMO. this, though, seems pretty spot on

@MrSuperheromoviefan Again correct, I understand that and see the direct flaw, however as I also said, if there's a smarter choice who is Japanese I would love to hear it, and keep in mind this is to be widely marketed in the US and most of North America

This didn't seem right.. There were some very good choices though but that guy as Light and Hoult as L just didn't seem right.

Hey, anpother Death Note fancast! Sweet! My take on it, one-by-one...

- Gaspard as Light jus doesn't quite seem right to me. I actually liked him in Hannibal Rising, but I just have a hard time seeing it. But hey, whatever floats your boat!
- Nicholas Hould as L is very inspired casting! I like that!
- Your Misa choice isn't too bad.
- The Kira investigation team's cast pretty well.
- Asa Butterfield as Near - very inspired casting as well.
- I see you also have my Mello choice (Jamie Campbell Bower). He's also my choice for Poland in Hetalia too, haha.
- Typecasting alert! Cillian Murphy has sworn off of playing villains other than Scarecrow and jury's still out on Dilliger Jr. from Tron Legacy. Murphy deserves far better than to be pigeonholed. Might i suggest either Jared Leto or Adam Brody?
- Ryuk and Rem are very well cast too.

All in all, good job.

@Warrior thanks

@ballstothewall

Really? For some reason I always thought the main thing for portraying L was in the eye's even more then Light, and after that, stellar acting and resemblance. I mean, look at his eye's, they aren't even wide open and staring, and his acting is great. What does he lack in your opinion that makes him L'ish?

@MistressKizuna
Thank you,Near and L are my most proud choices so far. And darn about Cillian, how about...Milo Ventimiglia with long hair?

Ha-Ha I see we got the same casting choices for Near and Mastuda, I would love to see Asa as Near, he has the seriousness and persona like Near and Jackson would make a execllent Mastuda he's very carefree and a little naive :) I wouldn't think of Nicholas Hoult as L, I could actually see it..he has quirckiness about him that's perfect for L (amd a lot better than my choice Shannon Kook-Chun) Jamie as Mello? Hmm...well I do love Jamie but he might be a little too old to play Mello since he's twenty three know...my choice was Alexander Ludwig from The Hunger Games from he amazing performance as Cato (but's that just me) other than that you have a really good cast for a American version of Death Note :)

TheSoulEater - 8/15/2012, 11:00 PM
Well Alexander's...tall and not nearly as...."Not" manly as Mello is, Jamie I know can pull it off but like you said might be to old
