My Spidery sense was tingling the second it was announced that Felicia Hardy a.k.a. The Black Cat would be featured in the upcoming tie-in video game to Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Here's why my inner detective instantly zeroed in on this possibility---
1.) Marc Webb has stated numerous times that his take on Spider-Man will tell a different story than Sam Raimi's trilogy and a big element of Spidey's lore missing from Raimi's film's was Felicia Hardy and The Black Cat.
2.) Unlike other tie-in video games, this latest Beenox Studio effort picks up directly after the events of the film. If I had to make a guess, I'd say Oscorp takes Doctor Connors research and continues experimenting, hence the game's take on the Rhino and the Iguana.
3.)Beenox has developed the game with both Sony and Marvel providing oversight meaning that decisions were not frivolously made when selecting the characters that show up in the game.
4.) And now, we have official confirmation from Marvel Games Interactive Manager, Chris Baker, that the ending of The Amazing Spider-Man has repercussions that directly effects The Black Cat in the game.
Marvel.com: And what about the hair? It’s not white for many women her age. Did you consider changing it to make it feel more “real”?
Chris Baker: Yes, we actually had some color in her hair for quite some time, but then we realized it was taking too much away from what we felt the fans--ourselves included--would really want. We actually have a story-based reason for her white hair with roots--no pun intended--relating directly to the climax of the movie itself, even though she doesn’t actually appear in the film. I’d tell you, but, well, you know…spoilers and all…
Marvel.com: What changes did Beenox make to have her feel more “movie universe”?
Chris Baker: Most importantly, when it came to her look, the conclusion was to at least speak to everything you could identify as being iconic about her, but make it look like something you can imagine a person feasibly wearing in the real world. We all know the comic version, for example, has a very iconic mask. Practically speaking, a mask’s functionality is to hide one’s identity, and being anonymous doesn’t exactly fit Felicia’s M.O. in our story. So instead, Beenox gave her a pair of glasses with black frames that speak to the familiar shape of her mask, which I think do a great job of making her look “smart sexy.” I’ll admit, she’s probably still a little more provocatively dressed than someone in the real world might be while robbing a bank, but there are some core things about a character you just can’t change.

I fully expect that following the July 3, 2012 release of The Amazing Spider-Man we could be hearing some casting news about the infamous cat burglar. With Webb's adamant mantra that his Spider-Man is "The Untold Story" I sincerely doubt that we'll have Mary Jane introduced in the sequel, maybe not even the inevitable third film.

The Amazing Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school.
The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011.
Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.
