The Cast Of THE AVENGERS Reveal Who They Would Like To See Join The Team

The cast members that comprise the "big four" from Marvel's The Avengers chat about who they would like to see drafted to the team. There are a few jokey answers, but a couple of Marvel characters are also name checked..

USA Today have a great round table interview with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo in which they discuss quit a few aspects of filming Joss Whedon's The Avengers. They share interesting and humorous stories about getting into costume (apparently Ruffalo suffered for his art a bit while wearing his leotard), the positives and negatives (RDJ admits there are a few) of the film, and much more. But best of all, the lads discuss who they might like to see join the team in the future. In among the jokes are a couple of characters that any fan would love to see pop up in a future movie if it wasn't for all of these different studios holding the rights - something Hermsworth suggests clearing up by "splitting the takings"..

Q: If you could draft one new member to the Avengers, who would it be?

Hemsworth: (Jean-Claude) Van Damme from Bloodsport. A big kick to the alien head.

Evans: I'm thinking Salma Hayek.

Hemsworth: Why's that, Chris?

Evans: She can carry my shield.

Hemsworth: You might have to carry hers.

Ruffalo: I think Wolverine would be cool.

Hemsworth: I know different studios own all the stuff, but wouldn't it be cool to have Spider-Man and Wolverine come in? Split the takings.

Evans: That would be awesome.

Indeed it would. Alas, something like that is very unlikely unless of course the rights eventually revert back to Marvel - also very unlikely. But we can keep on hoping. After all, if you had told me 5 years ago that The Avengers would ever happen I probably wouldn't have believed you. As I said there is a lot more to the interview so be sure to click the link below to check it out.

The Avengers is out NOW! Get thee to thy multiplex.

Split the takings. Split the takings!!! Disney, Sony and Fox. Why the Hell not?! Just for one movie! Come on! It's not like it doesn't happen. It's even happened before on a super-team movie! Watchmen! Paramount and WB! There has to be a way. There has to be. The whole world depends upon it!

@ DukeAcureds

i agree split the takings, but studio's are greedy they want all the money to themselves & i don't think they'll like it if any of their franchises are shown to be inferior to other i.e the avengers looking better on screen then the x-men & vice versa.

wolverine vs hulk could be the greatest comic book movie ever!

It's not that unheard of. During the golden age of hollywood; studios would rent out actors, equipment, characters, and etc to other studios. Then split the earnings.

If Wolverine were in The Avengers the tension would have increased drastically, but Thor vs. Wolverine vs. Hulk and in Joss's hands, AWESOME.

I immediately imagined them sitting around Avengers Tower wondering who to recruit and being like "DUDE SPIDER-MAN & WOLVERINE!!!"
Honestly, if we could get those guys, I'd want them together. Spidey & Wolverine are interesting together in the Avengers like Cap/IM & Thor/Hulk

It wouldn't even have to be Sony's Spidy or Fox's Wolverine. Would it? Couldn't Marvel Studio's have their own (most likely superior) version of the characters in their movies. They would only need to pay Fox and Sony for the rights to use the characters while they still owned them.

Would be interesting to see how Marvel Studios would handle Wolverine in his actual costume, how they would design and have it look on the actor, wether its Hugh Jackman or a re-cast.

To have Wolverine in the MCU would mean we could see on film the adventures of Logan and Cap during WWII and the Hulk 180-181 story line in which the world was introduced to Wolverine.

i mean how hard is it really??? just tell sony they get a cut, and ask to borrow spiderman. Sony could keepmaking their own spidey movies, but you could borrow him for the avengers, and sony could sit on their ass and rake in a cut from all the avengers movies!!! its really not that complicated.

You know... Spider-Man and Wolverine would be my choices also!:)
Too bad the studios are creedy bastards!

You can keep hoping thou.

But if i had to choose more possible choice. I think i would choose Black Panther.
Vision, Henry Pym (Giant Man or Goliath. I think they are more useful than Antman), Iron Fist and Luke Cage would be next in the list in that order.

jazz@ Maybe they just dig those characters more or want them in cause they are iconic. :)

I agree with Booyah. We first need to have the Avengers regulars before branching out to include all of Marvel's mega stars.

Even though they cant have spiderman in the movie.. Why not just have a cameo? I mean can't Sony just let us GEEKS have that???
WeaponMental
WeaponMental - 5/4/2012, 5:35 PM
Seriously though, they need to have some more female characters. It was wayy too much testosterone. I think Wasp is first, Scarlet Witch, and or Ms. Marvel. Ant-man should have been in this one, he's one of the founding members! Not even a mention of him. Black Panther would be awesome!

Maybe the introduction to Thanos isn't a prelude to the Avengers 2. Maybe it's a prelude to something bigger, and Avengers 2 has more to do with Black Panther and some other serious threat! Maybe relating to Thanos.

If I was Marvel, I'd hold off on Thanos a little bit longer, building the anticipation till we (if ever possible) get the rights to Fantastic Four. I just dont see the Avengers facing Thanos alone. Unless they bring in Warlock and the Guardians of the Galaxy.-- HMMM

For Sony, it would be a wise choice for them to lend Spider-Man and get a cut since their fiances aren't looking good (It would be even worse if TASM bombs)

Sony is supposed to go into bankruptcy in 2012. Sony pictures division is in bad shape and its assets are expected to to sold off to help save the electrons division. This includes the rights to Spider-Man.

If they change wolverine to have a costume closer to the comic they should at least do the brown version. I always hated the yellow bananna with claws costume

Dude, is it that crazy for studios to just split the characters and not have to go through the trouble of selling them back after a certain number of years?
