FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Unlikely To Share Universe With The X-MEN

FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Unlikely To Share Universe With The X-MEN

A few weeks ago, we learned that Josh Trank's Fantastic Four weren't likely to crossover with Bryan Singer's X-Men in a future film, but now, thanks to an interview with writer Simon Kinberg, we're hearing that the two super-teams may not even exist in the same shared film universe! Check it out!

In an excerpt from a new interview conducted by ScreenCrush, X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg shared some details about his next film, the upcoming Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot. When asked if the X-Men from Bryan Singer's film would share the same universe as Trank's Fantastic Four, Kinberg had this to say:

"Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you’re like, “Oh, you’re just a mutant.” Like, “What’s so fantastic about you?"

ScreenCrush: “We have powers … just like that team down the street.”

Kinberg: "Right, right. Exactly, “So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

Of course, this could always just be classic misdirection, but what do you guys think of the news? Will the X-Men and Fantastic Four stay in separate universes or will they crossover? What is Fox's secret Marvel project that is slated to release July 13, 2018? Sound off below.

The film is expected to hit theaters June 19, 2015.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.

I loved his response: Rebooting a film that almost everyone loves was challenging but thankfully we are rebooting a series that almost everyone hates.
They could have gone on a "Celebrity Astronauts get Super-powers" route to explain why they are not hated like the X-men but that might be too similar to the first 2

"Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four".

and now was their chance to introduce the F4, with the new timeline that will be created by DOFP it means a whole lot of events will happen, for example the birth of the F4 and them acquiring their powers however they have planned of doing that part..

Kinberg: "Right, right. Exactly, “So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

the main difference between the F4 and the X-men is that the F4 are accepted by the public and dont have to hide their identities, where as the xmen, they are constantly prosecuted for being mutants.
im pretty sure there could be a story somewhere with that in mind that would pit the F4 vs the X-men and therefore having both teams share the screen in a movie..

YESSS!! I was dreading a cross over. that would not be fantastic at all. keep the universes separate. Just because Marvel is doing it and WB is doing it we dont need everyone else to do it too. I already love the cast, the director and the tone of the reboot. I hope it delivers.

It doesn't need to share the X-UNIVERSE is so vast... stupid using this crappy reboot hero team.

Glad.

Look X-MEN's stuck at Fox like Spidey's stuck at SONY. At least FF and co got a chance to go bk 2 Marvel like Daredevil, Punisher, Blade did!!!

Ms Marvels to get your attention :p

There has yet to be ANY good news about this reboot... and unfortunately people will still go in droves to this garbage. The sooner this crap and Spiderman bombs, the sooner Disney will be able to get the rights back and do it all how it should be done

FOX shouldn't even be allowed to have either of these franchises. Give FF to Sony, and Put X-Men back with Marvel already.

Just because they haven't been mentioned prior, doesn't mean they can't be in the future, but then again, I prefer that they don't do it with this particular team, as Lee777 said.

"No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

Well...no...in the comic book world they actually don't. But I guess in your world they do.

Difference is, Winter Soldier had strong on screen presence. It made him terrifying and memorable.

The more I hear about this reboot, the less I'm interested in seeing it.

Apparently there are two options, grounded or goofy. Grounded is 'dark' and goofy is joyful. Reality is apparently not joyful.

[frick] you, Fox.
