THE FANTASTIC FOUR To Be A "Coming Of Age" Story; New Details On Age And Origin

Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) talks in detail about his and Josh Trank's take on The Fantastic Four, stating that the younger team will be "older than high school" and drops some hints about the origin story for the foursome in the reboot, with perhaps an Ultimate inspiration...

"We’re definitely telling a younger story that the original films did," Simon Kinberg revealed in an interview with Den of Geek recently when asked if the casting of Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm was an indication that the reboot will feature a take on the team similar to that of their Ultimate Universe counterparts. "They’re older than high school, but they’re not quite grown into the world. If anything, this is a coming of age story. It depends on what books you look at. There are some, like the Ultimate books, that tell this story. So it is an origin story of the Fantastic Four, and it does follow them before they really know what a superhero is." Of all the comics in Marvel's Ultimate line, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar's take on the characters never really connected with audiences as much as The Ultimates or Ultimate Spider-Man, so whether basing the movie on this series is a smart idea is debatable. As for whether or not we'll see the team travel into space and gain their powers through cosmic rays, Kinberg remained frustratingly vague. "There is archetypal imagery of how they get their powers, for sure, and it does involve some sort of scientific travel." What do you guys think? Be sure to sound off below!
