Aside from a few side stories in relation to Viggo Mortenson's rumored interest in the movie, we haven't really been covering Universal's upcoming take on the Snow White tale. Well that may change if Thor star Chris Hemsworth accepts the role of the hunstsman..

'Thor' star Chris Hemsworth has emerged as a front runner to star in Snow White and the Huntsman, the Universal fairy tale that also Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. Rupert Sanders is directing. Hemsworth's stock is up as Thor continues to clean up overseas in anticipation of Friday's domestic opening for the Kenneth Branagh-directed Marvel film. It isn't clear yet whether Hemsworth will take that role. Stay tuned.

Word is that although nothing has been signed, the role is his if he wants it. Which leads to possible schedule conflicts as Joss Whedon begins shooting The Avengers. But Variety seem to feel that Universal may well work around Hemsworth's schedule in order to secure him for the role. In this story, The Hunstsman becomes a protector/mentor to Snow White(Kristen Stewart) when the evil Quenn(Charlize Theron) sends him out to the forest to kill her. Aside from that, not much is known for now. Keep an eye on CBM for updates.

I wouldn't be watching this because of Kristen Stewart. How can someone that looks blazed 24/7 be the fairest in the land?!? Fair with her prices probably! lol

No, Chris!! Don't do it!!!!

Damn, that Huntsman just keeps getting younger and younger with each new actor.

Viggo Mortensen - 52
Hugh Jackman - 42
Chris Hemsworth - 27

It could be a good move for him..depending on the quality of the script of course, and the director. Anyone heard of this Sanders dude?

Stewart may suck in the Twilight flicks, but I have seen her be decent..not great, but watchable in other stuff. She may surprise.

Hemsworth would do! But i think that Jim Caviezel would be great!

Ror@ True!

The Movie might be ok but i still think Stewart is totally wrong choice in the role of Snow White!
I mean Snow White should be the most beautiful girl in world?!:/

Emily Browning would be great Snow!:P She has that innocence in her face which Snow needs. And can be bad ass too like Sucker Punch has shown.

@magic8, you must not have your head on straight if you're naming the wrong actors in regards to a "major drop off in talent".

As for Kristen Stewart - she's really not the worst of the bunch but she does fit the "major drop" bill, I detest her a lot due to Twilight and the fact she's a bit of a one-trick pony after that.

I thought Hugh Jackman had won this role already? Wasn't he going to do this before filming The Wolverine? So has the production date of The Wolverine moved up then? Taken a different role? Hiatus? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just ready for a better Wolverine movie.

lol, myself and Magic8 differ frequently but I have to agree. Hemsworth was great as Thor but has he proven to be as versatile or as objectively "good" as Mortenson..OR jackman for that matter? Nope. Still think he will, but from this casting perspective it does seem that Universal are settling.

@Ror he had a great small part in "A Perfect Getaway." that and the George Kirk role were what nailed it in convincing me he would make a GREAT Thor.

True, look I'm not denying the man's talent at all, but c'mon, Mortenson is one of the best actors working today PERIOD.

Im glad for Chris, this news is good promotion for him as an actor...

but I think there are.... "bigger" actors for this role, and I mean someone with a longer career and well known.

@RorMachine, he's got his foot in the door internationally now... and that has all the chances one can give a rising actor/actress the opportunities to either make it or break it. So far, Hemsworth seems to have a good head on his shoulders and not let the current, almost-meteoric rise to fame affect him like some I know of. Like Mortenson or any other actor in the beginnings of their blooming career which have highs and lows, time can only tell. Just don't dismiss anything yet out of hand until the metaphorical dust has finally settled and a clear conclusion can be seen. Jackman's in the same boat as he has other projects that don't include the big screen - broadway being one of them.

Beside, Viggo made a few duds himself regardless of him being a "great actor".

@Ror i think Chris would be great but it would totally be a different film if they cast him. i think they should go with someone much older...
