"I really wanted to do that," Ratner confessed to MTV News about his departure from the "Conan" movie. "I'm sad about it, because I loved the script."

Ratner goes on to explain a little about the Conan script:

"The script is very cool, contemporary ... it's going back to the original source material—the mythology of the characters."

On why he was replaced, Brett Ratner had this to say:

"It just didn't work out—scheduling and stuff," he said. "It's an incredible project, and Marcus will do a great job."

Marcus as in Marcus Nispel. Marcus has directed Friday the 13th, Pathfinder and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yes Brett, I agree with you. Marcus will do a great job with Conan.

Yes, Conan is well over due for a glorious return to the big screen. Even better that Ratner has been shown the door, he'd just dumb the whole thing down.

Let's hope Marcus Nispel can properly bring the sullen eyed womanizer to life.

@LEEE777 - I wouldn't be all that surprised if they are using Red Sonja as a testing ground for the public's appetite to go and see a movie like that. If it bodes well, I think Conan will be fast tracked.

huh. Well all this means is that now I actually get to watch Conan. If ratbastard had directed it I wouldn't have watched it at all. I have officially boycotted his movies for eternity

I'm glad he is out. I didn't like what he did with X3. The first two Conan films where awesome, wonder who they would get to play the role. Please don't get The Rock!! That would be a great poll to put up. Who should play Conan?

Have any of you guys seen PATHFINDER??? I have, and it was terrible. I'm not so sure this is a step up....more like diving out of the way of a car only to be hit by a bus!

UPDATE:

unnamed source quoted anonymous producer on why Ratner was replaced...

"We realized we were about to make a movie directed by Brett Ratner. And his movies eat the corn out of my sh*t."

If only all producers felt this way.

Pathfinder did suck, but I thought Friday the 13th was pretty good. Script was kinda lame, and it had some horrible acting, but I liked how they had two "good" girls last awhile, i really had no idea the one chick was gonna bite it, really surprised me.

Plus they made Jason Bad-ass again, not a super-strong slow as hell decaying zombie-corpse.

i'm glad he's off the project; i dislike brett ratner's work. his directing style reminds me of made for tv movies. good in small doses with lots of commercials in between.
