Jason Momoa Says We Can Expect More Magic In Future Conan Films

Jason Momoa says he studied big cats for his role as Conan and explains why the magical aspect of Howard's stories will be further explored in future installments.

Below are just a few snippets from the video.

"When Marcus originally came to me, they weren't interested in just making a remake. They were re imagining or reinventing this whole franchise by pulling from all the source material, eight decades of Conan material."

"So I was reading the books and I went and studied panthers and big cats and lions. I saw the way they moved, how they stalked an how aggressive they were. They can move on a dime."

"There's a lot of magic and sorcery in the Conan stories but they wanted to steer clear [of including] too much of that because of Clash Of The Titans. They have a little bit of the sorcery in there with Marique (Rose McGowan) but I'm sure in Conan 2 and 3 there's going to be a lot more of that."

Conan The Barbarian directed by Marcus Nispel and starring Jason Momoa, Rose McGowan, Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang and Saïd Taghmaoui is slated for release this August.

My only concern for this movie is that Nispel doesn't have a sterling track record.

Momoa is starting to grow on me. Speaking of which, did anyone catch last night's episode of Game of Thrones? The episode was great, but the ending left my jaw on the floor.

@Lert: the screenwriter of the film said it's an R rated movie. Where are you hearing PG-13?

Exactly...Conan is supposed to be agile and panther-like. You can see some of Momoa's agileness in the trailer. This ain't your 1980's Conan. Looking forward to this!

I think he was a great choice but not sure about the director and some of the others in the cast. Really want this to be good but I'm sure it will be overshadowed by the other movies coming out this year.

@HelaGood Seriously? I think Rose probably looks more genuine. In movies like this, the woman (especially a witch) is always beautiful and perfect looking, whereas they should look more menacing and monster-looking, more realistic for its genre and era.

^^^ Like I said, those that know Howard's writings know that Conan was described as moving like predatory felines. I find it quite refreshing that he took the role that serious as to study their movements. It's too bad more actors don't research their character and role more indepthly.

^^^I think it's fairly common that actors research Comicbook characters if they're not already familiar with them. So, when you say "It's too bad more actors don't research their character and role more indepthly", I can't imagine who you could be refering to specifically- even more amusing considering that "more actors" would probably fall into a category of actors that are better than Momoa. Easily.

The thought of this guy studying Lions was just a little eye-rolling and funny for me. Nothing serious. I doubt his Catman moves will make or break the film. But I do understand his need to report such things; this is his big movie break and he's the lead role. If it was a 2 second scene as a Hotdog vendor, you're going to study the Hotdog man. It's your big shot. I understand that. Doesn't make it any less funny, but I get it.
