Cinema Sins is back with yet another pesky video that meticulously dissects everything wrong with a big-budget Hollywood movie. This time they set their sights on Peter Jackson's epic fantasy-adventure film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” the first of a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The three films tell a continuous story set in Middle-earth 60 years before “The Lord of the Rings,” which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Three movies out of one book? I could see if it had three possible stories.

But one trip.... stretched out for three movies? It sounds as bad of an idea as, say, putting Jason from Friday the 13th into.. space!

This was a great companion to the existing LOTR films. It suddenly became cool back in December to hate on it. I get the annoyance by the 48fps debacle, but the movie itself is a perfect continuation of that universe. It's extremely re-watchable too--the beginnings of another great trilogy of films.

No it wasn't bad at all. If anything I love seeing well made movies about classic fantasy adventures. I aree with thewonderer I can't stand these videos, they are [frick]ing retarded and aren't really even funny enough to be considered satire.

I like how these videos nitpick while missing some big things that actually hurt the movie. The Hobbit was just ok. It did not stand up to the quality of LotR. They are trying to cram to much in to make three movies when it could have been one or two. Peter Jackson is frequently self indulgent. He needs to learn that just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I was expecting errors in translation from book to movie or things like wires hanging in the shot. 90% of that was looking for something to complain about.

I was disappointed by the theatrical releases of LOTR too and look how those turned out. I expect the extended versions of Hobbit to be as redeemed by it as LOTR was for me.

I thought the Hobbit was great. As good as LOTR, heck no! But it was still good. I did wish they had used less CG, but hey, i guess beggars cant be choosers huh?

And yes, the Eagles are dumb...they made the whole adventure of the LOTR trilogy stupid.

Why not use the Eagles to fly to Mt. Doom instead of walking there?

I loved it when I saw it in the theaters, and since having watched it twice after getting it on DVD. Sorry people complain when movies don't follow the book and than when they do people don't like it. Honstly except for a few exceptions he followed the book to a "T". He even put the parts were the Dwarves sing one of my favorite parts of the book. Sadly no one writes like this any more.
I think some people love to complain just to complain. The Movie was an amazing success $1 billion dollar success.
I can't wait to see the other two parts.

@FrankieDedo, If you seriously think the battle against Azog at the beginning was epic or exciting, then in the same sentence criticize someone about not knowing "Tolkien lore", I really suggest reading the books again. That battle had nothing to do with Azog and Thorin's manufactured grudge against each other. That battle was supposed to be about retaking Moria, but Jackson twisted it for his own purposes of adding unnecessary conflict in his movie. This movie was such a disappointment, not just because Jackson ravaged Tolkien's book, added in junk just to run up the length of the movie (Radaghast, Azog, the garbage about the Ringwraiths and the Morgul Blade...), but because it was so poorly directed. This movie isn't even close to being in the same league as the LOTR movies and especially not the books.

The Hobbit was more entertaining to me than any of the LotR movies. Better paced, and the added content took nothing away from the heart of the novel, and increased the watchability of the movie. It was almost like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark with dwarves.

Totally agree. I've made that point about the Eagles about a hundred times to people that say "well why don't they ride they Eagles into Mt. Doom and just drop the ring?"
Because 1. Dragons 2. Giant ass crosbows 3.Lots of flaming arrows. 4. Giant evil death eye commanding Ring Wraith Riding a F*CKING Dragon. 5. Catapults hurling giant stones.

Theres quite a big list of scary crap.

The Hobbit was good by the way. No complaints here. The Dwarfs were hilarious.

I don't care if Peter Jackson wants to make 500 movies out of the Hobbit. I could stare at Middle Earth for days and not get bored. I obviously don't expect everyone to feel the same way about it, but all these criticisms seem nit-picky and easily shrugged off to me.

@RorMachine I completely agree! I read your review and even though it addresses much of my own complaints, I still (respectfully) think that it let the movie off way too easily. Yes, the lack of any logical amount of physics was really distracting, but at the same time completely unnecessary characters such as Radaghast and Azog almost made me physically ill. One of Jackson's weaknesses is shoehorning unneeded conflict into his movies, and he did that with the grudge between Azog (who should be already dead by the events of the Hobbit) and Thorin. There were so many cliche's and cheesy parts that ruined any enjoyment I would've gotten from it. I could go on, but I covered a lot of the problems in my editorial too:
