HARRY POTTER And JAMES BOND Star Ralph Fiennes Defends Author J.K. Rowling From "Disgusting" Verbal Abuse

You probably don't need us to tell you J.K. Rowling has become a controversial figure due to her outspoken views, but actor Ralph Fiennes is now coming under fire for speaking out in support of the author.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has become a rather controversial figure in recent years, with her views on the transgender community proving particularly problematic for many of her (now former) fans. Ultimately, some agree with the concerns she's expressed with trans people identifying as female, while others have dismissed the writer as transphobic.

Inevitably, everyone has an opinion on the matter, but key members of the Harry Potter cast - likely looking to avoid being tarred with the same brush - have mostly rejected Rowling's viewpoint.

Someone who is now standing up for her, though, is Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes.

"J.K. Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings," he said in a recent interview (via SFFGazette.com). "It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being. The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling."

"I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women," Fiennes continued. "But it’s not some obscene, über-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman."

Rowling has indeed been subjected to a torrent of abuse and death threats since making her thoughts known, with one Twitter user telling the author she would be "next" following a Tweet which saw her comment on the attempted murder of fellow writer Salman Rushdie.

No matter where you fall in this debate, Fiennes concluded with an undeniably accurate take on cancel culture. "Righteous anger is righteous, but often it becomes kind of dumb because it can’t work its way through the gray areas. It has no nuance."

As of right now, it doesn't appear as if there are any plans for Fantastic Beasts 4 and, for the most part, Rowling seems to have taken a step back from the Harry Potter franchise (she won't be involved with the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy video game, for example).

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for the latest on future plans for the series.

@philinterrupted - you my friend are an open and honest thinker, not bogged down by bias. All he asks is for people to listen. He himself is getting Munsonned now!

He is really misrepresenting what she supports.

@Razorface1 - yup. It’s not that she can’t call herself a woman. It’s that she says trans women are not women

@MikeyL - Trans women can make believe all they want, end of the day, they still aren't women. Period. I can dress up and call myself Obama. It doesn't actually make me Obama though.

@TheOverseer - I could get a great plastic surgeon and a great personal fitness trainer, but I still won't be 20 years younger

@ShimmyShimmyYA - if you don’t like what he saying why not just let him talk and get canceled? As a fan of his free speech, I’ll enjoy those last few sentences that get published before his social credit score makes him much poor than Kanye just got. And that’s one guy who’s free-speech I didn’t like. Being from Cuba, at least they’re not getting the firing squad. More like fired from the squad.

@TheWalkingCuban - it’s all moving to a social credit score. That’s the game right there and most people don’t know it or think the idea is some conspiracy theory. Smh

@Supercat6376 - cognitive dissonance, lots of things have come to bankruptcy simply because Google stop having them on the search for on their period. Heck, I remember Nicki Minaj supporting Donald Trump in 2016 and the response was Swift, not Taylor, and she’s backtrack even Swiffer, not the mop. Just look at Kanye, he was a billionaire like two or three days ago and now it’s worth 400 million and uncounting. This son of a Cuban recognizes all the symptoms. I didn’t used to, until I went there. Once I went there I saw with my own eyes, that it does not work. What gets me the most is that everybody with their righteous causes don’t realize that those are the causes of fake media, big Pharma, Hollywood elites, we’re not talking about just the bottom of the society. I mentioned that be enough to at least make one suspect he is being duped?!

@TheWalkingCuban - I’m Puerto Rican myself. Hispanics are waking up to this craziness in big numbers and it’s going to show in our elections.

@Supercat6376 - yeah the open borders policy will backfire like never before. The most Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans to ever come here EVER… and they think maybe they’ll vote for another oppressive regime? They shoulda stuck to Mexicans and Hondurans (I’m half Cuban half Honduran, Cubiche/Catracho)
