We've been hearing a lot of rumors about who will be cast in the role of Roland Deschain, the rumors have suggested names like Christian Bale, Viggo Mortenson, and Javier Bardem.

Well now The New York Post is reporting that Bardem has now officially signed on to star as the old west gunslinger Roland Deschain

"Javier Bardem has officially signed an epic deal to star in the movie and TV adaptations of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" book series. The Oscar-winning actor will play Roland Deschain in the eagerly awaited Ron Howard and Brian Grazer adaptation of King's beloved seven-novel saga.

It's a momentous deal because each of the three movies in the series is to be followed by a TV miniseries. A well-placed source confirmed to Page Six, "Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the intention is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series. It's an enormous deal for any actor, but Bardem was always the first choice."

The Old West-inspired fantasy epic sees Deschain on a journey to find the mythical Dark Tower, with the hope of saving civilization.

I know a lot of you already had Javier pegged for the role but now that it seems to be official what do you guys think?

Currently reading the second book. The first book was a difficult read, had to turn back a lot, but I hear it gets much, much better! Looking forward to see how Ron Howard brings this tale to life. I don't think it will be an easy task.

Bardem is the kind of actor that the critics will adore, but he will not put asses in seats. They needed a bigger star to sell this unusual story.

Oh well, too late. Guess they don't want to make a profit?

not my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice for Roland, but he's a great actor, and I'm just glad they're are making this series into movies in my lifetime. I hope they have enough sense to make:

Movie 1: Gunslinger (Which is short)/Drawing of the 3/ Wastelands
TV: Wizard and Glass
Movie 2: Wolves / Song
Movie 3: The Dark Tower (WITH NO HOT CHOCOLATE ENDING PLZ!!!)

Maybe Alf is available to play Oy.

Yet to read any of the Dark Tower books/comics but really want to get into them. As for the casting, I think it's about time Bardem got a franchise under his belt

Interesting approach with the movies and mini-series in between.

I kinda think Bardem would have been the perfect Bane as well. I haven't read the Dark Tower books, read the first collection of the comics and liked it.

Steven King is a great writer so I think it could be good, it will likely depend on Ron Howard's direction.
