PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS Trailer Sees The Late Lance Reddick Unleash The All-Powerful Zeus

Disney+ has released a new trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians featuring the late Lance Riddick (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Zeus in a story that sees Percy set off to find his master lightning bolt.

Fans of author Rick Riordan's work largely agree that the Percy Jackson movies starring Logan Lerman didn't exactly do the books justice. With that in mind, it's easy to see why there's such a huge amount of excitement for Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Now, we have a trailer for the streamer's adaptation of this best-selling series of books, and in it, we find Percy setting out on a search for Zeus' master lightning bolt. His cross-country trip will bring the young hero into contact with everyone from Ares (WWE Superstar Edge) to the main man, Zeus, himself (played by the late Lance Riddick).

The first two episodes are set to premiere on Wednesday, December 20, though we anticipate that changing seeing as both Ahsoka and Loki season 2 have moved to Tuesday nights. That appears to be a new strategy on Disney+'s part to ensure these shows can be enjoyed at prime time rather than in the early hours. Well, unless you live overseas!

Riordan - whose books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide - worked closely with the creative team and showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz to bring his books to life and deliver a series that stays true to his vision for these heroic characters that millions of book fans know and love. The first two episodes were written by Riordan and Steinberg and directed by James Bobin.

You can watch this epic new trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians below (via SFFGazette.com).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who's just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

The series stars Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood).

Notable guest stars include Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hermes), Megan Mullally (Alecto aka Mrs. Dodds), Toby Stephens (Poseidon), Virginia Kull (Sally Jackson), Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus aka Mr. D), Jay Duplass (Hades), Glynn Turman (Chiron aka Mr. Brunner).

We'll also see the late Lance Reddick (Zeus), Adam Copeland (Ares), Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue),  Jessica Parker Kennedy (Medusa), Olivea Morton (Nancy Bobofit), Suzanne Cryer (Echidna), Timm Sharp (Gabe Ugliano), and Timothy Omundson (Hephaestus).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians hits Disney+ on December 20 with a two-episode premiere.

So stoked for this show. The books are amazing. The movies were trash. This looks more promising. For now, at least. I guess we will find out on Dec 20.

Never read these books, only saw the first movie because of my brother.

Movie was terrible but they do say the movie really messed up so who knows. This could be another His Dark Materials/Golden Compass situation (although i did like the golden compass movie when i saw it as a kid)

Wonder if netflix still plans to do Narnia

Maybe next someone will give the Book Of Ember series another shot

Never was interested in this IP if I'm being honest, probably because of Harry Potter still being a huge phenomenom back then with the films and the ongoing books, then The Hunger Games came out and they were also a great hit so for me those were my faved dystopian young-adult stories that I grew up with.

But I am trying to watch new things so I might keep an eye out for the late Lance Reddick, Edge as Ares and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa.

all jokes about race-swapping aside, this does look pretty good... but really, why is it that if there's a role, one would consider to be coveted, especially if it deals with a position of power, Hollywood NEEDS to cast a black actor, regardless of context... like a Greek mythological deity... [frick]ing stupid.

Greeks, start getting on about "cultural appropriation," or whatever horse shit people are calling it now.

@Demigods - Examples?

I'm remembering a recent, very not good movie with a white Aussie playing the role of Zeus, for example.

@Demigods - I guess we just going to ignore Gerald Butler and Jamie Lannister playing Egyptian Gods?
Demigods
Demigods - 9/21/2023, 9:02 AM
@KaptainKhaos - two things: First, almost ALL of the Egyptian dynasties would have been considered white, since. we classify the olive skin tone as white. Having said that, I'm not talking about that shit movie, but if we'd like to go down that rabbit hole, I thought that was insanely poor casting choices as well. I thought it was pretty [frick]ing stupid. For the record, a blond haired Egyptian deity is completely asinine. Get someone with olive skin to play Egyptians, unless we're talking about the 25th Dynasty (I think the Nubian Dynasty was the 25th or 26th).

@EskimoJ - Troy, Fall of a city on Netflix is the one I'm specifically thinking of. They cast all the best roles in the series with black actors in this asinine bid for inclusion, which makes zero sense. It's about an ancient culture's religious beliefs and legends that surrounded people that would have, most likely, actually existed in some capacity or another.
Albert Wesker on Resident Evil TV series, which made zero sense. The other example are all these historical dramas with black actors and actresses... it's just [frick]ing stupid reactionary Hollywood hypocrisy.
Now people are calling for a black superman... because... [frick] white people?

@Demigods - Egypt is in Africa my guy/gal/them/they, I don't remember hearing about any white African gods
Demigods
Demigods - 9/26/2023, 8:15 AM
@KaptainKhaos - yes... it is in Africa... but Egypt was not black. This is legitimately basic history. The 25th OR Nubian dynasty was black, but if you think that Egypt was Black JUST because it was in Africa, then you are GROSSLY misinformed.

You also didn't hear about any black Egyptian gods, except Seti... but that had more to do with an association with nighttime, darkness and chaos.

Legitimately ask any Ancient historian (like I am... I've got a degree an all), or Egyptologist... they'll tell you the same thing... anyone who says otherwise is culturally appropriating actual history, either intentionally or unintentionally as revisionist history, or Afrocentric history, which is complete and utter horse shit.

@KaptainKhaos - uhmmm yeah... Before becoming a firefighter, I worked on Archeological digs.... This might sound crazy, but you can have multiple interests that you're passionate about. Need I post a picture of my degree? lol And you don't need a degree to know that Ancient Egypt wasn't black, for the most part... you just need to have half a brain cell, which you seem to be lacking.

First Egypt, now Greece. America continues to land on the shitlist of other countries, and I'm here for the ride!

It's only a matter of time before the majority of the world disowns the US. They'll still have U.K and maybe Canada, but they're really no better. Especially U.K.
