Well why not? If you're into marketing, you probably knew this was going to happen. But hey, I'll be buying my copy then. The original version is kinda hard to watch these days with anyone that does not remember seeing the original in all it's glory back in the day. You get too many comments like "wow these special effects suck" and "what's up with the Wolfman villain?" You know this movie was put out in a time when movies actually had to tell a story to be good. They did not have the technology to rely on special effects. Now for the official synopsis from Worstpreviews.com:

"The new disc collection will be $34.99 and will include a conversation with Ray Harryhausen, Maps of Myths, and Monsters Gallery, and trailers of this 1981 original movie and the 2010 version. Also included will be an exclusive photo booklet of the "Clash of the Titans."

So sit down, shut up, and enjoy the original "Clash of the Titans" on Blu-ray March 2nd, 2010. Then if you like the original just an intsy tinsy lil bit go check out the modern version a few weeks later.

Clash is one of those movies that I'll watch every time when it's on TV, even though I have the DVD right on the shelf, and then watch the DVD later on the same day. Awesome movie for it's time, I can't wait for the new one except for the fact of Worthingtons damn haircut.

Call me freak but i love stop motion, specially if its Harryhausen ...his work is full of fantasy, imagination and full art.(my favourite is the valley of gwangi)
Even so...i must to see the remake. the teaser its so cool! full of action.
both movies share the same title but i believe they go by diferent ways.

Loved the original. I too do not have clash of the titans. I assumed that it would always be shown on tv, but that doesn't happen anymore. The remake could never be better than the original, but I am hoping that it's a good movie regardless. We've had a shortage of good blockbusters recently, and I want that trend to end.

I have this on dvd already, so I don't believe I'll be buying a second copy. Better than the original, I don't know. A decent movie in its own right? Hell yeah.

lol I have watched this movie like upwards of 15 to 20 times because it used to come on TV all the time. Its good and all but I have just seen it way too many times to bother buying the dvd

On a off subject a friend of mine said superman returns is in between 3 and 4 of superman and i told him it wasn't and he says it is. i want to show him it wasn't.

Hey Lee, not everyone hated Friday the 13th. I've been a fan since I could watch them, almost 25 years ago, I'm 30 now and I like the remake. Was it perfect, no. Was it as good as parts 4 and 6, no. Was it better than the rest of the series, absolutely. After part 6 we've only been subjected to entertaining bullcrap.

I had always heard about it, and how good it was, but never got the chance to see it until my senior year in history class a few years ago. I loved it.

Tobuttica- I couldn't agree more! I've been a fan of Jason ever since i wasn't aloud to watch!!! Yet i prefered the 4th,6th and 7th, the rest are indeed shit. The remake was enjoyable enough to be better than the rest after 4,6&7 of course ;)

As for the original Clash, i'll wait till they re-release the dvd in the 5$ bins at Wal-Mart. I might get the remake in the 10$ bin though... ;)

I got to meet Ray Harryhausen at an event like 5 years go and he signed my Clash of the Titans DVD cover. Had him sign it out to my dad as a birthday gift. Sadly he passed away about 3 years ago or so....

this movie was one of my faves growing up but i would not go as far to call it a masterpiece just saw it the other day stell like it but god is it cheesey and the actings kinda bad

God, i hate purists.
"It cant be better than original", just from that i already know, no matter how good and better the remake is, you will say the original is better.

I disagree, i loved the original, for ITS TIME, it was awesome, nowdays its just watchable, the nostalgia helps alot but dont be fooled.

The new one looks too good, if they dont run away from the main story and just add more action (as shown in the trailer) then to me it will be better than the original.

To me the Howl is not needed, its was a lame thing in my opinion, a robot howl wtf were they thinking, im sure they can think in a better way to make the howl's work.

The original is a great movie, with (for it's time) fantastic special effects. The original Medusa is the best version of Medusa on film as far as I'm concerned.

And I'm not sold on the new one yet. Mostly because although CGI is generally better than stop-motion special effects, bad CGI looks TERRIBLE. If the CGI in the new one isn't good, it could ruin the movie...

Oscuro, I have to ask, what isn't boring to you?

Clash of the Titans is an awesome movie, and really even the effects still stand the test of time. Sure no one's fooled, we all know it's stop motion animation. But unlike computer animation( where if it isn't convincing it's bad), stop motion animation doesn't have to look real to be effective. The stop motion characters, though not realistic, are still beautiful to behold, and the fact that they are not realistic looking in no way detracts from the story telling.

I have the Ray Harryhausen collection including CotT, thwhtGuardian. You're right about it not detracting...if you're over a certain age. But I think it would bother kids do the way that Black and white bothered other previous generational kids. When you watch the original CotT, it is watching real cinema art on a budget. Its cool for that! But there are parts where they clearly cheated and you just have to be trained to ignore it. ;-p

Wasn't a remake..was a requel..but Im not getting into that again!

Remakes are rarely better than the original, but there are some exceptions. I preferred The Departed to Infernal Affairs, and actually found the American Grudge remake creepier than the Japanese original..that may be it!

In cinema it is accepted that effects becomes outdated and what's more significant is the story , script, acting, direction and even the stunts which actually stands the test of time. One of the few exceptions are Ray Harryhausen animations. You simply have to stop, watch and awe at the masters creativity, patience and hardwork. I grew up watching classics like the the Seven Voyage of Sinbad, Golden Voyage of Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts.

Those sinbad movies were great. Personally I love old black and white movies as well Phin. Especially the b+w universal monster movies and any thing with Bogart, there's just something about the contrast that makes them more entrancing than modern movies.

Hey, I here what you're say, twG. There are classics that should remain untouched, or rather, just can't be outdone by any modern retelling with superduper, over-the-shoulder, turbo-powered CGI. Somethings are better left in their original state because their charm may be partly or the whole in the artful, budgeted way in which they were expressed onto celluloid. Its just the way it is. I'm on the same page.

Kalabog, another test is how timeless that they can be. Consider the early works of modern contemporaries Stan Winston (I know he died this year, but still...) or Rick Baker. They are still effectual 30 years later.

I love Stan Winston's work, he did realistic effects even in the digital age. His creature effects are the standard, and yet he's humble as well as he often stated that he was merely standing on the shoulder of other great effects men that came before him.It's a pity he's no linger with us. I love movies that use classic creature effects.

Yup. Look at Rick Baker's Werewolf transformations in AAWIL and The Howling..say what you want about how fake some of the shots seem, but to this day it still looks like a dude is transforming into a werewolf, whereas in the new Wolfman trailer, it looks like a dude is transforming into a cartoon. CGI just cant achieve the same monster effects as practical make up and prosthetics.

that transformation aside I'm still pumped for the new wolfman movie. It looks to tell a uniquely different kind of werewolf story, so I'll be watching it.

I bought this on DVD along time ago...because it was one of my childhood movies. If they mess up on this Remake or whatever they wanna call it... Im going to be pissed.

But this is great...I will be picking this up, but I have a feeling that theyre going to be coming out wiht an ultimate edition to this after clash of the titans (2009) comes out to the blueray...they might make a ultimate collectors edition with both versions...like they did with "the day the earth stood still (piece of crap btw)...but only worth getting because the original was the shyt!

I mean who knows right? I bought the M:I collection...and thought it was it, and final. now their making Mission Impossible 4. Kinda ticks me off cuz their going to make a nice edition for the next set. (just you watch)

If you own the DVD, aside from the extras they put in this, you're not going to need to buy it.

Just like when DVD's first came out the movie industry flooded the market with movies and people gobbled them up thinking they were getting this rich picture quality, when in reality, all they did was just transfer it into the DVD format. This has been the same with most HD-DVD and BR movies.

Don't be fooled you're getting an high def movie just because its on this particular format. Remember, movie are limited to the format they were filmed in.

For example, I have played my DVD's of Superman along side the "HD-DVD" versions of superman, and they look basically identical, the audio i find is slightly better though.

Growing up this was one of my all time favorite movies. I'm equally excited as I am nervous for the "remake" as they seem to be changing the story quite a bit. I will be there opening day for this one, and I truly hope it's awesome.

I hope the new one is good. The effects will be better for sure though I love the Harryhausen animation. However I can't see the script being as good. There were some classic lines that just won't be outdone.

TheJester, this is true. The best is when you can find old films that say that they have been *remastered*. This is when picture and sound will have exceeded the theatrical release.
