"There is one rule, above all others, for being a man. Whatever comes, face it on your feet."

Prime Video recently announced that the second season of The Wheel of Time will premiere on the streaming service on September 1, and some new key art (via SFFGazette.com) spotlighting most of the main heroes has now been released.

We also have word that the first season 2 trailer will debut at some point next week.

Whereas the first season adapted (pretty faithfully) the first book in Robert Jordan's sprawling saga, "The Eye of the World," the next batch of episodes will focus on "The Great Hunt," which will thrust Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski), Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) and their allies into the middle of an even more perilous adventure.

Check out the poster at the link below.

"This season is a lot of screaming, crying, fighting, and two people talking in a room," showrunner Rafe Judkins teased at New York Comic Con last year. "We did build that groundwork. You know who these people are, and now you get to see them go on these journeys. The journeys Robert Jordan created are epic. It's a gift for people who know the books to watch the show, because they see contained in each of these characters the path that's in front of them. In season 2, we're on that path. By the end of the season, eight episodes later, it's just massive. I'm excited for people to see it."

The promo stills spotlight most of our returning heroes, but there is one new face among them. After parting ways with the series for reasons that have yet to be fully disclosed, Barney Harris' character, Mat Cauthon, will now be played by Dónal Finn.

@MartianManHuntr - My dad is an avid reader of fantasy...when I asked him about this prior to watching he politely said what TAWP gif above does. He fell asleep during LOTR, and he loves Tolkien too lol. I commend Jordan for selling this, but the 2nd season really needs to be stellar. Fans have become like sports fans...zero patience. Of course some studios have become like shite franchises too and are perpetually rebuilding.

Why do they try to make the demographics of every tiny medieval fantasy village look like modern day new york city?

The first season was not faithful to the Eye of the World in any shape form or fashion.

@MarkJulian - I read it many years ago, so it wasn't all clear in my mind, but I remember thinking it stuck reasonably close to the story. I suppose it would depend on your level of pedantry.

@MarkCassidy - This isn’t the same as complaining that the LOTR movies didn’t have Tom Bombadil or that Hugh Jackman is too tall to play Wolverine. Those are pedantic complaints.

The changes in WoT were major. Just one of many examples, the show claimed a male or female could be the Dragon Reborn. I understand they wanted a mystery of “who is the dragon” but it’s pretty nonsensical to allow female dragons. It’s lore breaking even. The world has male and female magic that is different. The male half was tainted and thus male magic users go crazy when they use it, Since male magic users are dangerous, people are scared of dragons and false dragons. But why would anyone be scared of a female dragon? She’s just be a very powerful Aes Sedai.

Another example was in the finale, a group of low power female magic users defeated an entire Trolloc army. Not only did this take away what should have been Rands first major public display of his powers, which has huge story implications, but it kind of makes Trollocs less of a threat already. In the books power increases as the main characters grow in their power. But in the show, these noobs already defeated an entire army. It’s very premature to display that level of power that shouldn’t be earned until later in the series.

@MarkJulian - Yeah, that's the gist of it, but nothing that makes it to Hollywood generally does.

@The1st - As someone that has read the entire series at least 3 times, they made a bunch of seemingly small changes that will drastically change how things playout later on. If the show makes it to season 3 or 4, they’ll be completely off the rails.

@MarkJulian - And some of those small changes made no sense. Why have Moraine get stilled? Why have Mat’s dad be an alcoholic abusive POS? Why give Perrin a Two Rivers wife? Why make Nyneave so powerful already? Why did Egwene die then come back in the finale? Why propose female dragons? Why not have Rand defeat the Trolloc army at Fal Dara? Why have Moraine banished from the Tower? Why have Rand separated (seemingly beginning his Dragon Reborn story) which means he won’t be going after the dagger Fain stole? Why add the weird Perrin/Rand/Egwene love triangle?

Some changes weren’t bad. I like that we got Aes Sedai and the Tower earlier. I liked the Logain stuff, which was all off-page in the book. I liked the flashback to Dragonmount.

But there were a lot of changes that didn’t make sense or add to the story. And a few of them - like female dragons and the low level source wielding women defeating the Trolloc army - seem very lore and story breaking.

I can't watch this shit, it's one of many shows that I'm not the target audience.

As a huge fan of the book series, season 1 was quite a let down. I’m giving season 2 a chance in the hopes that they heard audience feedback and won’t have the COVID delays to contend with this time.

The Great Hunt is one of my favorite books in the entire series.

They took a great property and ruined it.

They totally changed key components of the story to accommodate the lunatic fringe Hollyweird nutbags.

DEI is fine, and in many ways a very good thing, but they also needed to make a good show. They spent all their energy checking boxes and forgot to devote any of their time to making a quality product.

Hollywood ruined this, but I'm sure they are very proud that they did. Just like Rings of Power.
