Remember that new WB executive, Drew Crevello? After helping develop X-Men: First Class for FOX, some fanboys thought he would be involved in bringing DC properties to the big screen. It remains to be seen whether that will happen, but Crevello’s first big move has been to secure the rights to the Dragonriders of Pern series. The story follows a civilization protected by intelligent dragons and their riders, with the fantasy landscape steeped in political conflict. Written by Hugo award-winning author Anne McCaffrey and her son Todd, the series began in 1968 and spans 22 books with additional short stories, graphic novels and games. Copperheart Entertainment previously optioned the series and set X2: X-Men United and Watchmen writer David Hayter to adapt the first book. As Deadline points out, the property sounds like a potential candidate to follow the Middle Earth films for WB.

Have you read the series? Would you like to see an adaptation on the big screen?

This is the first time I've ever heard of the property, but I love it.

I too thought that was Charizard. Speaking of Charizard can you imagine how cool a live action Pokemon movie would be. It seems every other IP is getting made into a feature film. So why not Pokemon too.

Pokemon is a property that would be hard to portray. It's basically promotes animal fights. And although they don't really get hurt in the cartoon how do you portray it in a live action movie.

Disney should sell the Thor rights to WB...or better yet, WB should do a Thor movie based on the Norse Myth.

Pern is fantastic. You should read them. It did start to meander a bit halfway through, but the character development is unequalled in SF. It's really top-notch work.

Never read the books really. I love the fantasy/historical genre, let's wait and see what comes out of this. I'm curious to see the King Arthur movie by Guy Ritchie.

@Ramiel

Thor is un-copyrightable. He's in the public domain!!! You could make a Thor movie, I could make a Thor, WB could make a Thor movie, but as long as one of these Thors isn't identical to the Thor of another companies than you're good.

Whoa! I was beginning to think no one had any interest in making these into films. If you are going to start, read them in the order they were published. There is some time skipping, but the payoff is better if you read them that way.
