Ciaran Hinds Says GHOST RIDER: SOV Is "A Mad Kind Of Film"

The veteran Irish actor talks to Digital Spy about playing The Devil in the upcoming Ghost Rider sequel, stepping into the genre for the first time, and working with Nicholas Cage..

We have already heard a little from Hinds about his interpretation of The Devil in the upcoming "quasi-sequel" to Ghost Rider. But here he uses a favorite adjective of the Irish to describe the movie, something we all probably guessed from seeing the trailers anyway. He also hints at a fight scene between he and Nicholas Cage's Johnny Blaze..

"It's a genre I don't know. That was something I didn't think I would ever be involved in. I do Shakespeare! I wear breeches and do Jane Austen! And then this is just mad, so different. I don't know how it'll turn out - probably just this mad kind of film that certain people of a certain age will get into."

"Playing the Devil in human form - I didn't know what level to play it at. They just said, 'Give us your stuff', but it's not fire and brimstone."

Hinds also gives us a tease of a scene involving his character Rourke and Johnny Blaze. It seems these characters will only meet once in the movie, and ol Satan comes out the worse for wear..

"I did get to meet Nic Cage, which was a thrill. A very nice, very professional man. Very good, very sharp," he commented. "We only had one scene, where he gave me a punch in the jaw and sent me miles away!"

We will get a chance to see if those decidedly mixed reviews were accurate when Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance hits February 17th.

Peter Fonda did a fantastic job as The Devil in the previous film, shame he didn't return for the role.

Cage is a legend. People seem to think his career began with [frick]ing Con Air or something. He gave superb performances in lots of great movies before he became a parody of himself.

love this guy in absolutely everything he has been in, from Rome, to Munich, to Tinker Tailor...heck I was even pumped to see him in the last Harry Potter movie. pretty concerned this movie is going to grate my nerves (Cage does that to me), but the Crank movies are unrelenting guilty pleasures, i may be giving this a chance (god help me). plus Stringer Bell and Collin McCLoud from the clan McCloud are in it! giving it a chance...

I think this movie will be very enjoyable. I don't know why everyone hates on Nick Cage he is a fantastic actor who just has had bad roles. Plus he is a huge comic nerd like all of us.

Adaptation and Leaving Las Vegas are two brilliant Nic Cage performances. He just makes poor role choices too often

That Nic Cage Losing His Shit video is one of the more hilarious vids I've seen.

But yeah, he's had a few good performances. National Treasure, Knowing, Face/Off...but he can be awful in films like Ghost Rider and Wicker Man.
