Speaking to MTV, Lorenzo di Bonaventura - producer of the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel, reportedly titled Cobra Strikes - talks about the 'lead role' that Roadblock (played by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) and Snake Eyes will have in the film, and he also confirms that ninjas will have a tremendous influence as well. He also talks more about including Roadblock into the film.

On the lead roles that Snake Eyes and Roadblock have in the film...

It's a full-on lead role. In a way, he and Snake-Eyes, their stories are really dynamic and very important.

On the ninja influence in the film...
The ninja fans are going to love it. There's a tremendous amount of it. What's interesting is, we both have that going on in the Snake-Eyes story, but we've found a way to bring that element into the Joes' story. I think anybody who's a fan of dark, in the middle of the night [action with] a dangerous foe arriving, this is a movie for you.

On having 'The Rock' play Roadblock...
Rock is such a great character to have in G.I. Joe. It's an amazing combination. We would not be very good if we didn't fully utilize him, so he's going to have a lot of things to do. It is an ensemble movie, so you have other characters certainly playing it out.

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes hits theaters August 10th, 2012!

I hated the first one but I admit that the snake eyes/storm shadow subplot was one of the best things about it…bring on the ninjas and snake eyes being a lead role.

More Snakeyes and ninjas? Already sounds better than the 1st one, which wasnt horrible, but had some pretty silly parts.

The first one was all right. I wanted to see more of a realistic tone for it though. They could have introduced some advanced technology, but keep it "grounded" too. I guess we'll see about 2.

sequel better have Golobulus, Serpentor, Pythona, and the rest of the Cobra-La crew.

the first one was ok it was a good try , but if they would invest is some good actors that can really act
and tweak the over tone of the movie make it a little
darker it could be one of the best cbm ever.

but then you could say that about any movie

Cutting some of the cast out of the first one is a good movie. As I have stated about some of the characters already they took away from the movie much like Devastator in ROF.

Lorenzo is an idiot that knows nothing about GI Joe. IMO, you don't have to be a fan of the property to appreciate it and respect it. I love ninjas, but that's only one element of what GI Joe embodies or represents. With more than half the cast NOT returning, going from Sommers (thank gawd) to Chu (O....M.....G, not much better), the sequel is shaping up to be a repeat of what ROC was. ROC was fun to watch, but they totally DIDN'T make a GI Joe movie.

Why don't we get the Rock to call up all his old wrestling buddies to fill in more roles. Hey get back SGT. Slaughter while your at it.

@EastcoastAvenger: A Sgt. Slaughter cameo, maybe even just his voice over a walkie-talkie or something would be awesome.

And hopefully, they leave out the ridiculous "power-suits" this time around.

I've got to see a lot to get over my dislike for the first movie, which turned some great and memorable characters into a generic paramilitary squad. I was glad to see it fail.

On a happier note, I've been enjoying the reruns of the classic Joe and Transformers series on The Hub, channel 294 on Direct, 11pm Monday-Thursday, central time.

@Denn1s agree with you on that one man. It wasn't the greatest movie, but I had a great time watching it in theaters, and then again on dvd. Tatum was fine, I like wayans. But in this one, the Rock could be sick. Can't wait for a good time at the movies with this one

Christopher Eccleston was the only character I could take seriously in the first one. This sequel will probably be the worse of the two. More ninjas and less military overtones sounds like the studio taking the census of 5 year old kids and Transformer 2 fans. Considering the idea of a special force group fighting terrorism is the idea the show was based on, it leads me to believe whoever's putting these two films together don't know how to capitalize on how relevant the subject is to people. Less ninjas and cool black suites and leather jackets. More camouflage uniforms and plot.... Oh and slap whoever let Snake-eye wear slacks and sneakers....

More Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and other ninjas and the writers of Zombieland definitely makes the situation of this film immediately better but still i doubt it can save what the first one destroyed.

Where was that epic worldwide war between Joes and Cobra?!
And where was the rise of Cobra?! And why they didnt conquered cities like in the comics?!...
All i know its that it makes me cry blood when i thing how [frick]ing great this franchise could have been!
