Steve ‘Frost’ Weintraub over at Collider has got the exclusive scoop on some news that pretty much solidifies whether we’ll see a sequel. Apparently, according to “some very reliable sources,” Frosty is reporting that a screenwriter has been hired for the sequel and that Paramount is following on their Vice Chairman’s earlier say so that there will be a sequel.
Naturally, nothing more is known. Who is in it, what it’s about, who the writer is, etc. It’s all a mystery, but it won’t be long before we start hearing stuff.
*UPDATE* IESB has apparently confirmed that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, recently in the news for being signed to write a Deadpool movie, will be writing the G.I. Joe sequel.
I really enjoyed G.I. Joe, because I went in knowing what to expect. Some people seemed to go in hoping that they would have a exact duplicate of the 1980’s cartoon or the comics. But, let’s be honest, they were only good because you were 8. I know, I was there. This movie reinvigorated the G.I. Joe franchise for a generation of kids and teenagers who don’t care about our 80’s childhoods or good storytelling. They want big bangs and big ... you get the point.
So with any luck 2011 will probably give us some more black Kevlar suits and funny beret’s to look at, amidst all the shooting, running and shooting.
And if you’re still looking for some G.I. Joe action in the meantime, make sure you check out IDW’s line of G.I. Joe comic books. They’ve done what nobody before has been able to do with the franchise, make it believable and realistic and still oh so very cool! Check out the trades for G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Cobra and G.I. Joe Origins.
