Was There a Meaning to [SPOILER] Getting Shot in Arrow?

I say what I believe the end of Episode 8 meant, and how it leads to the end of 9. Warning: SPOILERS.

In the penultimate episode of the first half of Season 2 of Arrow, Roy Harper tries to tell Oliver to officially make him a sidekick. This ultimately leads to an arrow in Roy’s leg. Upon a second viewing of the episode, I realized something: that Oliver shooting Roy greatly resembled Oliver getting shot by Yao Fei in Season 1 Episode 2 (Honor Thy Father). Here’s what I saw:
A) Both had the arrow sticking out of the end of the wound. The locations were different, but the effect was the same. Even the camera angles were similar (which I would show but I can’t find the second episode online at this point in time)
B) Both were shot from behind, unexpectedly. Again, possibly coincidental, if not for the fact that the shooters are wearing the same hood.
C) Both were shot by people trying to save them from worst fates. Yao justified shooting Oliver by saying that if he hadn’t, then Oliver would be tortured and killed horribly. And Oliver shot Roy because he knows that eventually, with the lack of training he currently holds, Roy will get killed. Thus, he shot him to force him to slow down and think about someone with a gun not trying to wound him.
Similar circumstances, similar wounds, and certain conditions all equal to me believing that Roy is currently going through his own “island phase” and needs to be taught. Plus, this helps me predict how the midseason will end:
Right after Oliver was shot, he met his first mentor, Yao Fei, who was a component in his training. Thus, I predict that now in the midseason finale, airing this Wednesday, will end with Roy finally seeing who the Green Arrow (or just Arrow now I guess) really is, thus beginning his full training.

I am suspecting Roy is going to get tortured pretty bad by Brother Blood. And I agree that Harper will find out that Oliver is Arrow and his official training will begin.

What would be great if Harper gets his arm cut off and STAR labs gives him a new arm!!!!! Yeah I know that will not happen but it would be awesome!

Might be, I think Oliver is definitely looking to bring Roy into his circle with Diggle and Felicity but I don't know how soon its gonna be. I can see the writers making Roy go through what Oliver went through for the sake of literary symmetry. Roy is going to be Green Arrow's sidekick sooner or later anyway so might as well make it sooner. This show is great but the only thing I can't stand is that they don't refer to him as the Green Arrow. Calling him the Arrow is only slightly less stupid than calling him the Hood, just call him Green Arrow already.

Also, I forget exactly how Diggle said it but in the last episode he said something to the effect of "Super soldiers, what's next aliens?" Did anybody else think that that was foreshadowing?

That "Everybody wants to rule the world" Arrow vid is great. But I was expecting the original song to go with it.

It was already confirmed by the actor that Roy will learn the Arrow's identity and become part of the "team" either later this season or on the 3rd.

This show loves to zoom in on objects that foreshadow future events.

In this case, they zoom in on his knee and the bloody "RED" Arrow ;P
