In the penultimate episode of the first half of Season 2 of Arrow, Roy Harper tries to tell Oliver to officially make him a sidekick. This ultimately leads to an arrow in Roy’s leg. Upon a second viewing of the episode, I realized something: that Oliver shooting Roy greatly resembled Oliver getting shot by Yao Fei in Season 1 Episode 2 (Honor Thy Father). Here’s what I saw:
A) Both had the arrow sticking out of the end of the wound. The locations were different, but the effect was the same. Even the camera angles were similar (which I would show but I can’t find the second episode online at this point in time)
B) Both were shot from behind, unexpectedly. Again, possibly coincidental, if not for the fact that the shooters are wearing the same hood.
C) Both were shot by people trying to save them from worst fates. Yao justified shooting Oliver by saying that if he hadn’t, then Oliver would be tortured and killed horribly. And Oliver shot Roy because he knows that eventually, with the lack of training he currently holds, Roy will get killed. Thus, he shot him to force him to slow down and think about someone with a gun not trying to wound him.
Similar circumstances, similar wounds, and certain conditions all equal to me believing that Roy is currently going through his own “island phase” and needs to be taught. Plus, this helps me predict how the midseason will end:
Right after Oliver was shot, he met his first mentor, Yao Fei, who was a component in his training. Thus, I predict that now in the midseason finale, airing this Wednesday, will end with Roy finally seeing who the Green Arrow (or just Arrow now I guess) really is, thus beginning his full training.
