dmb1511: John Stewart being one of DC’s first black heroes is the most important character on their entire roster for me. I have always followed the character and I always will. He was much more than a fill in for Jordan to me simply because they are completely different. John is the one black character in DC that strengthened their Justice League line-up to finally include Black people as a whole. This is the reason I watch justice league animated movies. It disappoints me when they use Jordan in animated features and John Stewart doesn’t show up, as a supporting character or is replaced by B-rated a hero. I believe John Stewart should remain a founding member of the Justice League simply because he was chosen for having what Jordan does not. As the 55th greatest hero on IGN, I felt he was extremely underrated. I also feel like making up for it by assigning him number one on ours for being the best Green Lantern we have ever had and not a simple obscurity.
bigshow2312: With all do respect, people of no comic book knowledge have generally thought of the Green Lantern character to be a “black dude”. To be mistaken for THE staple of the DC/Justice League universe is truly notable. All thanks to the
Justice League television series. This accomplishment has shed a light on not only John Stewart’s popularity but the character’s byword. He’s not a
“fight the power” or
“I ain’t have nothin’ growin’ up” brotha but a
Superman or
Batman character. A character that deals with the same circumstances as the classical heroes: women, power, responsibility etc. A character that has concern for the sector he protects but has demolished the clichéd dual identity fad. He’s of one uniqueness: John Stewart and Green Lantern… Mistaken for his league position or not, John/Green Lantern is an
A-list character.
