EXCLUSIVE: More Green Lantern Movie Set Pictures

The pics keep rolling in from one of our resident New Orleans scoopers; this time you can see the scope of the street set and faux props that were installed just for the "mass panic" scene.

Thanks to CBM Scooper ComicBookGuy we have plenty more pictures of the action filled production day of Martin Campbell's Green Lantern film. Filming took place on the intersection of Poydras and O'Keefe in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. This appears to be a continuation of the "mass panic" scene centered around the newly constructed faux Farmer's Market. As per the description yesterday, 'The extras have been spending their days running around the set screaming and acting terrified. The Farmer's Market was constructed from scratch in a New Orleans parking lot. Ryan Reynolds hasn't appeared on set yet, but this scene does involve his character facing off against the threat. This threat could be the fear entity known as Parallax, since the other villain, Hector Hammond (played by Peter Sarsgaard) hasn't been confirmed to appear in the scene.'

"The three walls were constructed in the corner of the intersection and quite a bit of shooting took place there. The walls are covered with "graffiti" and fake posters. I couldn't get in close enough to get a good pic of the posters but they look like they may have some DCU related stuff on them."

Interesting. I'm assuming that this part of the film will be the beginning.

Hammond's probably causing chaos using his psychic ability. He doesn't need to be on set to use telekenesis

Agree with you there cadaveric. I have my opinions about both DC and Marvel, I was brought up with Marvel though so I am way more into marvel. I just know a little about DC.

So car I've only heard about filming earth scenes, and it seems like it's mostly earth scenes in the movie to... I wanted big space settings and space fights!

Remember last year we heard a good third of the movie was taking place in space? Haven't had much hope for it:(

i love both dc and marvel equally i guess.i love batman green lantern superman and flash as much as i love the xmen iron man thor spiderman and so on and thats why i want to see good films with all those characters.

@capatainboomerang i think that we will see a lot of action taking place in space certainly a good third of the movie but remember the space scenes will be on blue screen and with cg so taking pictures of those scenes is somewhat difficult dont you think?

Yup. Im not a Superman fan never will be lol xD But yes I do like to see comic book movies, nothing like seeing your hero's come from the page to the film. Good comic book movies are always good to see.

@intruder—i agree with a lot of the things you say and i think we've already butted heads once, so i'm not trying to get in a war here... but let's face it you're not exactly open-minded on the dc-vs.-marvel thing. you love wandering over to dc articles and lobbing your little negativity grenades around. all in good fun, but if ALL the movies are great, BOTH companies can keep making them! so don't be too hard on us dc fans... (well, unless they're making odd rape threats...)

@intruder—like i said... you're ok in my book. maybe i misinterpreted your yawn as a general yawn to GL as opposed to a yawn on the pics themselves. as for cosmic, well whatever he's not even clever enough to know that a rape kit is the thing COPS use to gather EVIDENCE... not a kit for raping people... !

amen to your Parallax comment—i agree that for this to succeed they need to go balls to the wall on the space scenes... and i have high hopes that they will ever since hearing they were developing 25 separate GL characters for CGI. BUT that also means the earth scenes have to be good enough to stand with the offworld sequences.

that's why even though i'm optimistic about Thor—who is one of the two marvel characters i've always really liked—i'm a little nervous because i think the asgard scenes look SO much better than the earth stuff (except destroyer maybe). hopefully that's just the way the trailer is... hey at least we've SEEN a thor trailer!

Poni: Glad you could use these pics! It's only sets and little stuff, but it's still pretty cool. I'm just happy to have a chance to give something back after the many enjoyable hours I've spent on this site following the news.

Wolverine: I'll bet you're right about the gas truck and the bus. Haven't seen any groups of kids running around set, but they have another week of shooting coming up at this set. I'll keep my camera with me if I see anything else interesting.

A little explanation for the pictures: if you look at the two pics of the market, there is produce scattered everywhere. Gotta feel sorry for any produce vendor in a movie, because his merchandise is going all over the ground at some point!

I took one shot of the gas truck to show it moved out of the way to allow traffic flow through the area again.

Wish I could have gotten a better shot of the posters. I might try to wander over there on Monday and see if I can get a better look.

Too bad the last one didn't come out better- it's a sign for the Coast City Farmer's Market. I had the sun in my eyes, and got off one shot before I got run off by one of the guys over there. Funny he waits that long, because I was there for a good five minutes or so, walking up and down the block taking pictures from across the street.

@intruder—nice work! yeah i'm also imagining a full on dogfight a la the opening sequence of star wars 3... a m.f. HUGE parallax with 3600 guys swarming him... camera swooping and weaving all over the place with constructs shattering against his hide and green energy 3D-ing out into the IMAX theater... YES i'm definitely getting chills just imagining it!
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 7/31/2010, 11:11 AM
@intruder—that's an interesting thought... i was thinking that parallax would be IN the battery at the beginning, then escape and have to be subdued. that's because my theory has been that the writers wouldn't want him trapped in the battery for GL 2&3... i've been thinking that most moviegoers won't understand or appreciate the yellow weakness—they'll think it's silly and cheesy. so if parallax starts out in the battery and then escapes, it means there's no impurity for the rest of the series...

but YES there'd BETTER be some yellow lantern action at some point... maybe not all the rest of the colors but definitely Weaponers and a vicious Sinestro Corps. there's so much they can do with this story if they do it right...
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 7/31/2010, 11:38 AM
@intruder—i don't really think it's cheesy either, but we're comic fans not typical moviegoers. but ever since GJohns patched up the parallax stuff, GLs can overcome the weakness to yellow by overcoming their fear.... so if the current green lantern comics don't have the yellow weakness anymore, so why would they make movies that go back to that—especially since GJohns is running the show?

i totally agree that since it's part of the lore it's gotta be in there, but they can address the issue and then bypass it by making Parallax escape the battery... maybe at first just part of it escapes, infecting abin sur who in turn infects hammond? hmmm...

ok wait... so part of P escapes, infecting abin sur's RING, then it tries to release the rest of P but Abin escapes to 2814... so the mini-P kills him, he falls to Earth, then infects hammond? umm... baby P hitches a ride back to oa in hal's ring and then releases the rest of Parallax?

i don't actually like that idea much, it's a bit overcomplicated. but it's a possibility... i'm sure real writers could come up with something better!

bropous and Dgr8Nova: You're welcome, my friends. I know, in the big picture, I'm not showing too much, but the little stuff I can find is pretty cool, and is something I sure find interesting. I just hope you also find it interesting and cool.

In this "DC versus Marvel" thing, there are no REAL winners. Some prefer one, some prefer the other. Both are good, so nobody really has an advantage. Like what you like, and it's all good.
