Yesterday in Vanity magazine Warner brothers discussed its ending Batman franchise and the lack dc comic book characters on the big screen excluding the return of superman in Zack Snyder's man of steel. Warner brothers is debating on rebooting or creating a sequel. Overall no matter what it looks as if we will be getting a different green lantern sooner then expected.

But if the reboot would happen who would you have it focused around?

Hal Jordan the first human shown to join the Green Lantern Corps and a founding member of the Justice League of America.

John Stewart a architect and veteran U.S. Marine from Detroit Michigan, who was selected by the Guardians as Hal Jordan’s backup after Guy Gardner was seriously injured in a disaster

Guy Gardner The appointed Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, an alien named Abin Sur from the planet Ungara, crash-landed on Earth after being mortally wounded. As Sur died, his power ring sought and found two potential successors: Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan. Jordan was nearer to the crash, so he was chosen over Gardner.[4] In the later Booster Gold series it was shown that a time traveling Booster convinced Gardner to visit his dying father, thus ensuring that Jordan would be the candidate in closest proximity. Gardner was relegated to backup status should anything happen to Jordan.

Alan Scott Thousands of years ago, a mystical "green flame" (a meteor) fell to Earth in ancient China. A voice in the flame prophesied that it would act three times: once to bring death (a lamp-maker crafted the green metal of the meteor into a lamp; in fear and as punishment for what they thought sacrilege, the local villagers killed him, only to be destroyed by a sudden burst of the green flame

Just recast Hal and move on with the Sinestro Corps story. And also introduce John in that movie and have him in Justice League. Chris Pine would be fine for Hal.

Just continue it and put more time and thought in the script.

If they continue movies like Clash of the Titans this should be no problem.

They can leave Reynolds as Hal since his character will continue to grow. Get a new director and writers and have the sequel be a sinestro corps war. itll be the perfect redemption and continue into JLA. if they reboot it, the audience will be confused and wonder why they are reboting it when a GL film just came out last year!

Reboot it but tell the origin in the beginning credits like some movies have, new cast please

they don't need to recast; the cast was fine except for the supporting characters like waller and the two hammonds. three oscar winners, three horrific performances.

just because some of YOU guys don't like reynolds or whatever, from WB's perspective there wasn't anything wrong with them.

i read every review out there, desperately trying to find a positive one... and the thing i remember most was the fact that the reviews weren't picking on the actors, they were picking on the ridiculous script and appallingly poor choice of director.

Reboot it with a new cast. Every franchise needs a solid base/foundation to build off of (think architecturally). And that base is: the origin story. The one we got was unacceptable. I'm sure they can tell his origin in ten minutes and dedicate the rest to Sinestro's schemes.

sinestro was barely shown to be a mentor to hal; he only even started liking the guy in the last two minutes. there's zero emotional impact to him betraying them now.

GL2 needs to show the corps at full strength in a full-on star-wars level mega-battle against a normal, non-light-wielding cosmic enemy. it should be a spider guild war, not sinestro corps.

in a subplot, we see sinestro becoming dictator of korugar, and realizing that using fear instead of will makes it much easier to do that. in act three he goes yellow full-time, gets thrown out of the corps and his disdain for the guardians explodes into hatred. wouldn't hurt to see a few red flames flickering within the yellow at that point, either... nice easter egg.

the after credits is carol waking up in bed with hal, being drawn out to the balcony and getting her ring. then i -- um, i mean we -- finally get to see her in that outfit.

then the third movie can be sinestro corps and sapphire, with carol going from enemy to ally by the end.

Just make a better thought out story. Don't recast anyone cause nothing was wrong with the cast. It was script. many people that saw the movie said it was not as bad as the critics and people were trying to say. Still was not great because of script. The money it made, GL has an audience, with a better script, more time spent on character development, and proper time for Cg scenes to be made right so they wont get cut from film, GL can be a success.

Alan Scott should not even be considered as the reboot.

Reason: He isn't a Corps member, isn't as well known, and isn't associated with the JLA; he's a member of the JSA.

I think they need to reboot it with Hal. He's the original Lantern, he's a great character if done correctly, and he was one of the first JLA members. If not Hal I vote in John, only because he is the most recognized by non-comic fans due to his role in the JLA animated tv show. I greatly dislike Guy Gardner. Besides being a red head, he has nothing else going for him in my book. He lacks finesse and class. IMO he gives off the vibe that he is nothing more than the town idiot given a gun and told to patrol the town. He has his moments, but usually he just barrels in and reacts quickly out of anger.

Now I have a complaint to the article writer. Why did you not ask about the use of Kyle Rayner?

Reboot it with John Stewart

stewart's too boring for a movie. he's a brilliant character, because he's so smart and sturdy, and makes such brilliant plans. and his occasional "snaps" when he breaks that character and we see the passionate guy inside make him fascinating.

but as a guy old enough to have collected Mosaic, i know his real strengths are his patience, planning, reserve and diplomacy.

he worked in the comics because he wasn't a lead character trying to carry his own book, he was an occasional fill-in that was kind of like a day off.

but the only way to make him work in a movie is to make him like the growly-bear guy in the jla cartoon. the problem is, that worked because it wasn't really john stewart, it was "generic brooding deep-voiced black guy stereotype." they just made a new character and called him john stewart because they colored him in brown. great show, but no way was that john stewart.

No Reboot!
Reynolds, Fillion and Pine would all be good for Hal, but Pine obviously has the most star appeal out of the three. However, Fillion would be a real fan pleaser.

REBOOT!

No one will take the character seriously if it's a sequel to the first film, no matter how loose the ties. A reboot that distances itself from the original, with much more obvious talent behind it including a serious, talented cast, great direction and an excellent story writing team. This is supposed to be in the lead up to the Justice League film - anything less than excellent should not be tolerated by the fans!

And Hal Jordan really is the Green Lantern for the first Justice League film at least.
AC1
AC1 - 6/9/2012, 11:04 AM
Jake Gyllenhaal would be a great, serious Hal Jordan. He looks the part and has enough intensity in his acting to be taken seriously in pretty much all of his roles!

And they should really establish it as a reboot by having most of the film focus on Sinestro being Hal's mentor, making them sort of partners - in a similar way to Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Star Wars prequels, although obviously Hal shouldn't be a whiny douchebag.

kyle and alan for sure, a movie where you establish alan scott as a defunct member of the core, and he's having a free lance artist create a portrait of himself, and instead of paying kyle, he simply gives him a ring, kyle takes it and it sent to OA where he clashes with gaurdians because he wasn't chosen fairly but earns his title as he uses his creativity to stop a horde of red lanterns, and after defeating atroctitus and saving Oa he is made an honorary alpha lantern

I don't want a reboot. Out of all franchises that have had reboots (Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc.) this would feel the most unnecessary. The reason Warner Bros. is thinking about a reboot is because the first one performed poorly at the box office, not because no one liked it or they themselves thought it wasn't good. But as far as I can tell, the only reason GL didn't do that good at the BO was because Transformers: Dark of the Moon came out two weeks after it did and brought in over 1 billion dollars at the box office.

Am I the only person who truly ENJOYED this film? Yeah some of the dialogue could've been better, more human, if you like, and yeah, some of the support acting was Attroticus (see what I did there?)

But overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a good way to open up the franchise and a solid effort to put the character, in live action, on the big screen.

Now they just make the sequel, with the Sinestro Corps War, and make it as dark as they can...No rebooting, no recast. There's enough of that, already.

@AlexDeLarge87- I agree, no need to reboot, or even recast. Just a director who understands and cares about the characters, ala Whedon (and Nolan too, though from what I understand, Nolan's more of a "learned" comics guy than a seasoned veteran like Whedon)

Introducing John Stewart in GL2 would be super easy, it would make the movie awesome, and Ryan could still play Hal like he did awesomely in the origin.

@StockersBlahBlah- AMEN! (and I enjoyed it immensely despite everyone in the world's efforts to ruin the enjoyment by waaaaaay over criticizing).
Actually, I've spoken to many of the general public who DID enjoy the movie.

And I'm sooo tired of hearing how the writing sucked, If I'm listing dialogue from movies that made me roll my eyes and say "really?" The Avengers, Thor, and Captain America would way surpass Green Lantern in cheesy ,unbelievable, and just awkward writing. But I loved all those movies just the same---because that's how comics are!! I could keep going, but I'm liking what you guys are saying so I don't wanna rile the haters up too much ; )

btw, @PatientZero, Gosling is the only other actor who I thought could have pulled off Hal effectively and is young enough to go another 2-3 movies in the next decade. Only thing though, I think Ryan Reynolds has that extra spark of smartass that fits Hal. So RR's Hal to me for good now.

It took 30 years of making Green Lantern comics for the writers to develop a universe that is interesting, makes sense, and is easy to learn as a new-reader. The GL movie tried to fit all of it in... and it repeated the same mistakes! Don't get me wrong, I love the modern GL comics, and I loved the movie because I followed the comics. But it was too much CRAP and not enough BLOCKBUSTER action/comedy. Just like the 'Hulk' movie. Marvel learned from this and rebooted 'Incredible Hulk', which was incredible!

Given the poor reception, many fans skipped the movie entirely & the rest have already decided not to see anymore of the sequels. Green Lantern needs a NEW FACE.. and he needs more ACTION, less story. The movie needs to focus on the EXPERIENCE, so that the viewer feels the power of the ring & the beholder.. and is able to tolerate the lulls because the rest of the action experience is so good. Of course, throw in a bit of comedy..

To get a fresh start (like Batman after the mid-90s movies and the Hulk), a Reboot is 100% necessary to make a blockbuster GL film. Green Lantern needs a new look - something more modern - the CGI muscle suit was great, but the Hal mask needs to go. The mask looks fine in the comics, but it looks terrible on real people. Amazing Spider-man totally transformed the traditional Spiderman suit, and still kept the overall feel, just making it more modern.

Green Lantern should look more Armored (not like thick plates, but more like Batman or the New 52 Superman) and less Spandex-y. CGI suits are fine too. Kyle Rayner & Guy Gardner's suits are more modern looking than Hal's traditional suit. The masks should be replaced with color-tinted Sunglasses or something like them (think Hawkeye from the Avengers).

Hal Jordan has the most history & best relationships to build off of. Ryan Reynolds makes a great actor for Hal, and I think most people will accept him as the actor as long as the movie title and the new costume makes the reboot clear. The trailer needs to be awesome.

Sinestro should be Hal's mentor & co-pilot in the beginning, and develop a relationship there. They balanced Carol & Hal's time together fairly well in the first one. The Guardians, OA, and other Corps should only be shown BRIEFLY. Guardians should come off being more like 'bad guys'.. all-knowing beings that do not have the civilians interests in mind.. instead, supporting the Manhunters attack on the humans.

Like a previous poster said.. No light-based enemies. Understanding ONE form of light is confusing enough for the new viewer. It needs to focus on Hal Jordan saving Coast City on Earth.

A modern take on Manhunters should invade Coast City. (Think how Megatron and Starscream were modernized in Transformers). People love the new towering CGI robots - they're scary & intimidating. A large black/yellow cloud with a face is more weird than scary.

It should minimize origin (putting it in the credits or flashing through scenes of it quickly like Incredible Hulk did), and focus on the movie itself. Sinestro & Hal fight off the Manhunters together, against the Guardians demands. As the guardians come down on Hal & Sinestro for defending Coast City from the Manhunters, you see Sinestro starting to rebel and Hal remaining loyal.

After the Manhunters are pushed back/destroyed, Sinestro should make the yellow ring and be the sole yellow-lantern. He shows off & tells Hal to stay on Earth for awhile, he has some business to take care of.. Hal argues of course, and Sinestro heads towards OA to attack. To keep the movie from transpiring too much on OA, the Corps (Killowog & a handful of others) intercept Sinestro & throw him down to earth, where he smashes into some buildings. Hal notices the fighting going on between the Corps & Sinestro and gets involved.

The final, climactic battle is with the leader of the Manhunters, accompanied by a few of his manhunters (straying from the comics some to keep up with modern times... Mongul would make a great evil leader of the Manhunters IMHO. A super-improved, modernized Grandmaster would also fit.). The corps should have a really hard time against the leader. Sinestro is staying out of it, instead off fighting with the Corps.

Hal should convince Sinestro to stand with him during this time of peril, and they can continue their battles later. So of course Sinestro has a brief flashback of his homeworld dying... and he uses his power of fear to destroy the Manhunter leader, sending the remaining manhunters off. One manhunter reports back to a guardian in secret. Sinestro leaves the Corps & tells them to stay out of his business. The Corps tell him not to interfere on Oa... and the movie wraps up.

The sequel would of course be Sinestro Corps War with some more development of the Guardians working against the GL Corps.. and Carol should turn into Star Sapphire in this one.

The third movie should be Blackest Night - by far, the most crowd-pleasing GL story for new-readers. This should make for an epic conclusion, where even the remaining GL-haters will want to see it.
