Hidden Detail In Latest Green Lantern Trailer Reveals MAJOR SPOILER!

Seemingly not spotted before now, I came across the following moment in the recent Green Lantern trailer which reveals a pretty huge spoiler about the fate of one of the characters...

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

There have been many complaints about the various Green Lantern trailers, mainly about some less than perfect CGI. Well, while everyone was worrying about the shape of Hal Jordan's mask, it would appear we missed one very important detail. Check out the following screengrab and scroll down for a pretty big spoiler...

Take a close look at the dead body. Then take an even closer look at the shape of the head. See what I'm talking about? Yeah, that's Hector Hammond alright. And I'm guessing that Hal is reaching for the ring we saw the villain putting on in one of the TV Spots. It's rather shocking that in the days of fans taking hi-res screengrabs and what not, Warner Bros would include such a thing in a theatrical trailer. Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Many thanks to WolvieCBM for the screengrab.

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this year!

Noticed it I think in the second watch of the trailer and instantly got royally pissed at WB letting something like that slip. I did comment on it a fair bit in the trailer thread but no one seemed to pick up on it (It's at 1:57 in the trailer btw).

That or he just dropped his ring.

I caught that when I saw it. Surprising thing to include in a trailer, especially when it puts the importance of a certain character into question.

I figured Parallax would be the ultimate villain of the film, but I didn't expect Hammond to die.

The villain dying in a comic book movie. Never saw that one coming.

The trailer shows Parallax absorbing Hector Hammond ergo ruining his death for all of us. Trailers now a days are nothing but series of money shots. They might only be quick glimpses but they should know better - they're dealing with us Fanboys here who are going to break down every frame of every piece of footage released!!!

When looking at this sure im not surprised "wow a villain died in a comic book movie" sure its not the biggest shock but its still storytelling. You still want to go to see a movie without it being spoilt otherwise whats the point in seeing it?

People want to experience the story as it should be told rather than get chunks thrown at them out of order and spoil it when you finally see the finished product?

I'm sure people would go spare if they released a picture of Zod/The Lizard/Bane/Catwoman/Loki/Red Skull/Megatron dead before their respectful film comes out.

Hell would you have been happy to know Harvey died in The Dark Knight before the film was released?

A story is a story and is no matter what, best told unspoilt. It's simple common courtesy.

@imnotwearinghockeypants lol!
I do not know about everyone but I really excepted Hammond to die off in the first, and since he isn't a grand scale villain anyway, I do not care delux. Just enough to comment though!

@Acir. Mate you have no idea how pumped I am for this movie, since day 1 I have said this film is going to be great (for comic fans anyway). Even more so that i'm pissed they have given a big plot development away in the trailer. I'm not here going THIS FLIM IS SHIT ITS GOING TO SUCK. Quite the opposite, I want this film to be great but making moves like this and showing off big plot developments in ANY trailer is a bad move.

so you expected a low rent villain to survive when we got sinestro for the sequel?

@Acir, hey if you look at the blown up HD image of it on youtube (timecode 1:57) you can see the guy has a pretty big forehead. Who else is it going to be?

Hector Hammond and Parallax are the weak points of this film... That is all...

I noticed this the other day. I wanted to do an article on it but I can't make interesting articles at all. This hasn't spoiled anything for me since I read those spoilers in January. I hated Warner Brothers' marketing for this film til I saw this latest trailer. Truly epic! This is an interesting detail only us over-analyzing fans will catch.

I believe the Parallax entity in Hector Hammond overpowers him/drains him, leaving a decaying husk.

By the way, so I assume Krona finds the yellow impurity which transforms him into Parallax?

Not a big deal...The only thing I don't want spoiled is if they are making an attempt to make GL part of the wider DC universe. They have all said no in interviews, but i'm hoping they are just lying or that DC/WB has changed their mind on this.

Kinda weird that they did show it in the trailer, but really it's not that surprising if he dies in this film. I mean, most people watching the trailer probably won't see it, you only see that scene for less than a second.

Can't wait for this movie!

-Space Ghost is awesome!

Good spot.

I'm not sure it wasn't glaringly obvious he would meet his demise in this flick so the hate seems misplaced to me. The trailer also shows SPOILER Hal getting Abin Sur's ring...I hope that hasn't spoilt it for anybody ;-P

First comment on this website. And i am huge fan of CBM... With that said and over with. I must admit, even if we knew he would die, its still a little dissapointing to see him laid out in a trailer.

@Kes -- really? i thought it looked ok. i'm not super demanding, but to me it looks good. i mean, maybe not quite avatar but as good as just about anything up to then. maybe that's why i never had issues with the trailers.

let's face it, i've been looking kilowog in cartoons and comics for 20 years, so this looks good enough to me.

The first Green Lantern thing I read was the first draft of the script (other than a skim read of the wikipedia page) so the fact you see the outcome to the villain in the trailer sorta went over my head but in a different way to anyone who didnt pick up on him being there. Im more waiting to see which bits actually made it from page to screen rather than finding out what happens, if that makes sense. But thats mainly because I already know the story. Ironically it hasnt ruined the film for me at all as if i hadnt read the script i would have seen the trailer and like 90% of people id have wondered what the hell it was about and probably been put off. lol =] (not saying 90% of people would be put off tho.

Although it highlights the problem with trailers even more importantly it highlights the influence of the internet, as unlike at the cinema you can watch a trailer to your hearts content and look for all the little secrets.

One of the reasons they put little bits like that more often in the showreels at events like comiccon rather than in "real world" contexts is because they arent filmed and viewed in the same way one on apple trailer would be.

In terms of us going into a film sorta knowing that the villain will die i guess its something you have in the back of your head rather than something like knowing that the hero wont die (for the most part)

I love how it says "There have been many complaints about the various Green Lantern Trailers" yeah there was a lot of complaints about the first one but I have heard more praise for the wondercon footage and trailer 2 than I have complaints.

@HellsHammer I think one reason for that is that the first trailer was obviously the first thing the general public saw of the film so there was more buzz about how "bad" it looked, whereas its not as interesting to talk about how a film no looks pretty decent but only in comparison to how bad it looked b4. (If that makes sense) =]

So? We also can see Hector Hammond been killed/sucked by the entity Paralax in the trailer.

I never read any comic book of Green Lanter, that being said, this 'spoiler' ads nothing to my perception of the movie, for me is a Not much of a big deal....
all the previous trailers look very good, except of the first one

I kinda had a feeling he would be ten toes up by the end of the movie because as stated already, this is a CBM and like most CBM, the villains die instead of ending up in some awesome prison like Arkham Asylum or the big prison on Oa.

Oh well, still gonna see it
