No Superman Cameo In Green Lantern

No Superman Cameo In Green Lantern

Director Martin Cambell has shot down the hopes of anyone expecting to see a Hal Jordon/Clark Kent meeting in his upcoming Green Lantern adaptation.

The rumor was doing the rounds last year that Superman would be making an appearance in the Green Lantern movie. Even though these rumors were brought to us by the film's co-screenwriter Marc Guggenheim(the git!), it turns out it was all a load of bay.

MTV asked Campbell about the possibility of GL flying into Supes at some point, to which he said.

"No, that won't happen. None of the other DC characters will appear in the film."

I think it was kind of obvious this wasn't going to happen after news that another Superman movie was way off for Warner Bros and DC. Still, disappointing.

That sucks! I would really love to see some sort of cameo. Possibly a chance encounter with Oliver queen

Ah, I sort of knew they wouldn't keep the Guy Gardner and Superman cameos in there, what with all the re-writes and stuff. Disappointing, but unsurprising.

He's only talking about non green lantern characters, meaning guy gardner might appear.

Tyler is off topic but I've seen DiCaprio and Matt Damon to the delivery of the golden globe. And even if there are 5 years between them, Damon looks indeed more younger than Leo. He is perfect and now i want him for Cap.!

char: Well, he said no other DC characters are making an appearance, so that leads me to doubt Guy Gardner would appear. You make a good point though. I do hope we get a GG cameo.

Fixit: Very cool LOL :)

Hey guys, a bit off topic, but it does relate to Green Lantern, what about Anthony Mackie as John Stewart? I just re-watched the Hurt Locker yesterday, and I was blown away by his performance. He looks the part, and is the right age, as well (he's 30 or 31)

Thoughts?

Its a pity that there wont be any cameos...it would have been good because it would have been a sign that they were creating a larger universe as Marvel have done!

TYLER: I watched The Hurt Locker for the first time today! That's a great casting choice man! :)

They can easily mention other superheroes without showing them.
Like in the first few episodes of superman the animated series where martha kent mentions Batman.

LEEE is exactly right. of course guy gardner will be in this, come on guys. maybe not john stewart (possibly a cameo) since he came afterwards, but Gardner was there in Emerald Dawn, PLUS he's a mainstay GL character. he'll be in this, i'd bet my right nut...well maybe not my nut, but i'll eat my shoe if he isn't in it, lol.

and in order for superman/clark kent to have a lasting/meaningful cameo...well that would mean they would need to have someone lined up to play superman in his own movie...and we all know how things are going on that front...so this isn't surprising

Why does DC insist on the idea of seperate Universes for a Single Universe. The DC Characters all co-exist (and by that I mean that the JL characters and the main bad guys) in a single universe. The best thing Marvel did with their direction is work towards a single universe. Obviously their past errors of allowing their franchises to be held with idiots such as the fine people over at Sony Entertainment is something they'd like to correct but Warner has it all in one place and they still can't get it right. Batman I get, when they did Begins they really were hoping for nothing and Nolan delivered everything. That train is off on it's own but everyone else? The Future of DC Movies is a Single Universe.

this is really disappointing. DC really has to get it's shit together if it ever wants to make a JL movie.

P.S. As an unrelated note, I finally got around to watchin Supes the Donnar Cut. It has completely restored my faith in what he intended to do and I like Superman Returns better now as I see how Singer wanted it to play into the Donnar-verse rather than Lester-ville. Supes The Donnar Cut is a completely different movie, 10 times better and it actually makes sense. Plus it got rid of that stupid S Plastic thing that he threw at Zod's buddy...WTF Was that anyway? I love that Lester just created new powers...no explanation...I mentioned this to friends however no one I know cares about CBM's aside from the people on here...no one I know even knows who Donnar is...

Its quite possible, at this point the statement would be true. But between now and next year, another DC property could get green-lit and swing into full production. With such an advent, a reshoot with GL with a crossover character doing a cameo is always possible. Show a little optimism, you Debbie-downers!

I really could care less about this because it was simply expected. I trust in Martin Campbell's direction and to me Green Lantern will have to be DC's main(hopeful)franchise. Superman is completely lost in space and Wonder Woman will be pretty tough to handle and will most likely tank because so many problems can occur with her. DC's really only chances are The Flash and Green Lantern or Batman. Marvel's characters translate well on screen because their stories are more grounded in reality in some ways and have good story arcs.

@ Phineas...Good Comic choice...GL has always been pretty cool..I can see what GR8Asgardian is saying, GL is more on the "typical" sci fi side with there being a group of lanterns throughout the galaxy and their power is in a ring...versus the mutant idea on Marvel's side but Marvel's side also has it's share of fantastical heroes....Dr. Strange?? The Fantastic 4 Gamma Ray junk...hook me up with some gamma rays if I can fly and light up on fire...haha

I agree Phin, I'll stop being a debbie downer. It's just that I was hoping that DC would at least try and connect their heroes. The cameos in Iron man and the hulk were amazing and it just seems like a missed opportunity for DC to not do the same thing. It wouldn't even have to have been a full cameo, it could have just been a shot of the ring blowing by a mailbox with the name kent on it and I would have been happy. Just a tiny sign that their heroes are actually operating in the same world.

I mean, I thought that with the announcement of a DC studious under WB that we'd be seeing more consolidation, but so far we have nothing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

theyd have to be retarded to not atleast mention in some shape or form supes or bats, or someone else from the league. itd be soo easy and make everybody so happy. a glimpse of themyscira, newspaper clipping of the crazy lunatic in gotham with pointy ears, or a tiny segment on the news about some red blurr. the possibilties are endless and itd be soo easy to throw it in the backround of a scene or something. bank on something marvel has already proved. do it dc/wb. dont you want to be awesome like marvel is being right now

@VitMagic I agree, especially with the red blur part being that it's looking very likely that The Flash will be the next movie. :)

CDB- Wasn't Catwoman part of Batman Year One?
The same book that inspired Nolan to do BB & TDK???
Have you seen Catwoman yet?
Was Ra's the villain in Year one?
Get ready to eat shoe. WB have their own ways of inaccuracy.
This film will be as entertaining as The Matrix was
but nothing Marvel won't top with Ironman2 and Thor IMO.
I sure hope i'm wrong and it becomes the most accuarate adaptation ever,
not to mention the very best CBM ever made!!!

The reason the other heroes won't be mentionned is because
Hal will be the first hero to be known.
This will be a restart of the DCU if you will.
And since Nolan is finishing his trilogy,
Batman will be the last hero introduced in that filmverse.

Wait.....off topic why the hell do I continue hearing people mention that Nolan's Batman can't be around future DC films, GL, Supes and etc....I don't see it....what is it because he has no super powers so him and the likes of Green Arrow can't co-mingle?

I'm just happy the movie is being made.... I just can't believe they won't have some inclination of a team up possibly or at least some knowledge of others like him a hero.... It is needed damn it

I know, right? It doesn't take to many synaptical sparks to realize the ludi-ocracy of it. A wealthy man running around, in what is equivalent to Chicago, dressed up as a bat and beating up bad guys. It happens all the time. I just saw special report on 20/20 about the rise of caped vigilantes fighting costumed villians.
Its getting bad.

So people seriously don't think that another bizarre scenario can't enter an already bizarre scenario? By such statements, people unwittingly praise Nolan for making the absurd believeable and condemn the likes of Campbell of being too incompetent to do the same.

@ shaman

yeah, you make a lot of sense, man, but i find it hard to believe that they won't have the ring fly by Gardner like in the comic. it would SO easy to do. it would have been a little different with catwoman considering she would have needed to be an important character. also, BB and TDK were not direct adaptations, they just took small elements. like you said, we'll just have to wait and see.

anyway, i hope i don't need to eat my shoe, i know where i've been in those things!
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/19/2010, 3:19 PM
@ blueorangeny and phin

i don't think Nolan's batman would work in JLA because he's a totally different character. if you read a DC comic, batman is written extremely differently in his own titles than compared to his role in JLA. they are basically different characters for lack of a better term.

nolan has created a universe so realistic that he didn't even want chemicals to be the reason the joker was disfigured. instead he went with face paint because the other route would have been too hokey. now imagine superman showing up in a world that realistic...or GL, or flash...they totally would not fit in that setting. its the same reason we won't see nolan use characters like Mr Freeze or Poison Ivy. i think thats what everyone means when they say nolan's batman wouldn't work in future DC crossover movies.

thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 1/19/2010, 3:41 PM
See, I disagree cdb. I think the fact that superman, flash and GL don't fit with the Nolan Batman movies is a perfect way to show why Batman isn't sold on the league. Batman's skepticism could really be played up by illustrating how he first tries to rationalize how they do what they do, I think that factor would make for an interesting movie dynamic.
