Hello everyone, MrCBM56 here to give you his quick thoughts on the newly released trailer for the highly anticipated, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. While waiting for the trailer, I didn't know what to expect. And to be quite honest, I'm a bit dissapointed. That's not to say the trailer was bad, because it wasn't, just didn't meet the expectations I set myself for. Let me elaborate on the problems I had:

Story; we didn't learn anything about it. I think Marvel made this trailer to sorta introduce people to these characters and who they are. We got a little background on some of the characters (Drax), but for the most part, we didn't learn anything we didn't already know. another thing is Rocket Raccoon and Groot! I REALLY wanted to hear them speak...we didn't. This is more of a nit-pick than problem per-say, but I think it qualifies. Andof course...humor... Ah, c'mon. You knew it was coming. Let me say that humor isn't bad, but some of it felt forced.

There were some great things though. THE VISUALS. Rocket, Groot, the space battles, Xandar, the rap-sheets... ALL LOOK PERFECT! The CGI is great. The makeup is also great and I love Gunn for having more practical effects than an over-load of CGI. Another thing is the humor, wait what? besides of what I said earlier, the humor was still pretty funny. Especially at the beginning and in the middle with the prison guard. Chris Pratt is a very funny guy. His introduction to trailer was even really funny. Another thing is, and I can't really explain it, is the sci-fi feel. It just has that "it" to it that makes it abnormal and awesome! I love it.

To conclude this article, I will say that GOTG looks to be a unique, fun, exciting twist on not only the CBM genre, but with movies in general. I look forward to it.

Agree! The visuals were amazing the CGI is solid to say the least. Also I love the vivid colors in this movie, hint DC that is how a GL movie should have looked!!!!!

Anyways I am very excited and like I said before it looks like a cross between Ice Pirates and SW so I am very pumped for this movie.

The trailer bored me to death. Captain America trailer was 100000000 times better than that shit that they hyped over weeks.

the humor with Pratt in those first 30 seconds was terrible, and the whole middle finger thing and a-hole line was cheesy AS HELL.

Well if you watch the trailer again it does come off cheesy but the visuals are awesome. Though I thought the same thing on Green Lantern......

I'm not going to go as far and compare it to Green Lantern because it still looks really good. But if you compare this trailer to The Winter Soldier first one, not even just Winter Soldier, to any phase 2 first trailer so far, you just see lack of.... Quality

Now that you mention it, I can see this going the way of Green Lantern.
At least if it does poop the bed, it's on a team no one really cares/cared about.

2nd half of the trailer was solid. The first half...not so much. This looks like a straight up comedy. And thats fine I guess, I was just hoping Disney/Marvel could attempt to go in a different direction for once and not constantly rely on the overuse of humour. Still, looks better than expected.

It is just a teaser though, probably a second trailer will come with Captain America 2. And like I said, this trailer was basically an introduction. Nothing happen that really excited us fans. It was more of a trailer for the GA IMO.

The trailer was just "OK"

it just my opinion but... the humor with Pratt was so boring...

The problem with the trailer is the tone. It didn't know what the hell it wanted to portray. It mixed space opera then the dead pan humor. Shit don't mix that well.

James Gunn you ain't [frick]ing Peter Jackson or James Cameron.

Yeah, pretty much. When you watch the Winter Soldier teaser trailer, it feels like a thriller. I can't think of a single word to describe the trailer besides... Weird lol.

The trailer was not that great. IT looks good and that is about it. Hope the full movie is not in that tone but it is a Marvel movie so force jokes over everything else.. Very boring and does not get me excited for the film at all.

6.5/10 for the trailer for me.

First off to the point that we didn't learn anything new, I'd say that the general audience learned a hell of a lot in this trailer and these movies aren't just for us you know.

And people complaining about it looking silly or whatever? It's a movie with a talking tree and raccoon. The success hinges on it not taking its self too seriously.

Also people in general comparing it to the Cap 2 trailer. C'mon I don't think anyone was bowled over til the second trailer.

I think this movie is going to be amazing. I dont mind the humor it works for this type of film. The general audience will love this film just how audiences loved the Star Trek reboot(2009).

I am really eager to see Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon in action. I dont think it's fair however to compare GOTG to Captain America TWS the two completely different films. One is sci fi the other is espionage spy thriller.

I thought it was really exciting. Three things that worry me are...

Nebula looks too plastic...is that supposed to be a robotic arm?

Korvath...is he Kree or not?

Why are there so many humans?

I've read a lot of comments saying that GotG would be Marvel's Star Wars. After seeing that trailer, I would say that they made the Police Academy version of Star Wars. A comedy that just happens to be sci-fi/cbm.

Now, the first Police Academy was a decent comedy that did fairly well for that time period, well enough to merit a few sequels that went steadily downhill in quality. So GotG might do okay. For those trying to defend it by saying GA will end up loving the film just like Star Trek in 09, ummmm......not so fast. Star Trek was familiar to general audiences, this is not. Yes, it may do okay as a comedy (afterall, people liked The Hangover and both Grownups movies.) But anyone expecting this to do anywhere near the box office of the other Marvel films had better adjust their expectations fast. Maybe the other trailers will be better, and this will be a good cbm. But judging off this trailer, I would say it'll be lucky to hit $300 million, and being a Green Lantern bomb is definitely possible.

I consider myself to be a member of general audiences when it comes to this movie, cause I have never seen a comic book or even heard of them before this movie was announced. And I will say that nothing in this trailer gave me the slightest desire to spend money on this film. Based on this first trailer, I'll wait till it's on cable. That might change, but that's my opinion as of now.

Thought it was really good first trailer. I had very low interest in this movie, and was barely aware of it as a comic book. After this, yeah my interest has risen.

I like comics and all but i cant take it serious when they try to make it Comedy.
this looks more like a Comedy Book Movie than a Comic Book Movie.
I dont like comic movies as much when they're heavy on comedy and it comes off as forced.

This is the same reason why Marvel Animation is a joke.
just take a look at their current shows like Ultimate Spiderman or Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. or their major downgrade in Avengers Assemble.

Disappointed. 6/10.

Bits and pieces look awesome, but overall it seems a little....flat?

It was a good idea to introduce the characters, but they didn't 'show' why you should like them. They merely told you.

The dialogue, acting, and action didn't have as much 'punch' or attitude as I'd expect, and at the same time there's not much of a sense of 'awe'.

The set-design, costume-design, lighting, and cinematography look a bit like TV.

However, I realllly like the design & art-direction of the ship flying in the clouds. Hopefully there's more of that.

goldslayer- sorry but this film includes a talking tree and raccoon what reason would you have had to belive this was gonna be a serious movie?

I wasn't exactly disappointed, but after watching the trailer for the 10th time or something, I realized that I wanted to see more. The trailer was just for the general audience, to introduce the characters. But I knew the characters! I haven't read many GotG comics but I did know they basic stuff about them! I would love to listen to Diesel's and Cooper's voices as Groot and Raccoon. I guess they didn't wanted to scare the 'normal people' with the talking tree and raccoon?? But the rest of the scenes we saw looked solid. So I'll wait until TWS is released, because they'll probably give is another trailer with it, and I'll judge then.

But I trust Gunn and I'm sure Marvel wouldn't release a movie that no of the big names are in if it was bad. Because they can make an Iron Man movie that sucks and everyone will go see it. But a GotG movie that is bad would ruin them, because there are even comic book fans who have never heard of these guys!!

the only problem i had with the trailer was not hearing rocket or groot speak.

this movie looks dumb, i can't understand why marvel goes the cheesy joke a minute comedy show route, a little comedy is ok here and there but add some gravitas to these movies and maybe people might actually think the characters are in danger ergo they might actually care about them a little more. the only hero who should be able to get away with making jokes while he's fighting is spider man.

i am fed up of people complaining about humour, if you don't like it don't watch it.

I sat there watching this trailer with a blank, emotionless face and slow heartbeat... I guess that should give you an insight to how little [frick]s I give for this film.

Ace101 - 2/19/2014, 3:58 AM
it was a pretty darn good trailer i just expected something different from last comic con footage is all, i think it was 90% the same. cant wait till the second trailer cause that will be awesome, they may even show a few minutes in front of cap 2.

complaints:same as i had before i saw the trailer, the nova corps suits. thats it. oh and the amount of humans in space.

but thats it cant wait for this movie. it looks like its gonna be a serious/dramatic/emotional but fun movie as well.

Part of the reason they didn't go into the story too muh is because they had to introduce the characters to the general audience. You said that they explained stiffer already knew, but this wasn't for us. It was introducing them to the general audience. They're the money.

Another reason is because a lot of the scenes probably aren't done being edited whether it's the CGI or the editing itself. They have till August and sometimes movies are sent to theaters 2 days before the movie comes out. I think our next trailer will go much farther in to the story.
OcciferPing
OcciferPing - 2/19/2014, 4:51 AM
I don't know, guys. I see what you're saying about disliking it, but we're judging a TEASER TRAILER here. Think of back when TDKR first had a teaser trailer. Most people didn't like it because it barely showed anything. I know what you mean about Winter Soldier. That first trailer got me immensely excited.

But I think the thing that GOTG director is trying to do is not reveal too much about the movie. I honestly loved this trailer. More probably from the fact that 1) I didn't know a thing about any of the characters going in and 2) I didn't watch any sneak peeks or see any images before watching the trailer.

I'm just saying. Give it a shot. Trailers can be really deceiving. They can either make you love a film that ends up being super crappy, or make you hate a film that ends up being awesome. So we'll see August 1st.

P.S. Zoe looks even sexier with green skin. God I hope there's hot aliens out there that look like her.
