GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director Confirms Baby Groot Is Groot’s Son

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Director, James Gunn, recently revealed amongst a twitter debate that Baby Groot is actually Groot's son and not in-fact the same character.

While apparent to some, it seems that many people still believed that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2's Baby Groot was the same character as Vol. 1's Groot. Their director, James Gunn, has finally put an end to this misconception.

A conversation on twitter debated which 2017 shelf-stuffer was superior: Baby Groot or Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Porgs. One user backed up their argument with a point which Gunn then dismantled:

Therefore putting an end to misconception.
This way Groot's sacrifice in Vol. 1 isn't belittled, a topic that Gunn has previously discussed in reference to the possibilty of Michael Rooker's Yondu returning.

He will never be brought back to life as long as I’m around. His passing needs to mean something.

It's safe to say that he more or less feels the same about Groot's sacrifice.

I wonder what the time gap will be for Guardians 3 and if Son of Groot will be like a young adult by that time.

@smgmayhem - He's adolescent Groot (not teen) in IW according to James Gunn, about 12. He's pretty avid about that correction so maybe he'll be a teen in Vol. 3

Holy crap, never realized this!

I like it. Death carries weight, but we still get to have fun with a great character.

Can we please get adult Groot back?! Enough with these child Groots. Groot in GotG Vol. 1 was amazing. Total badass, and a real softy. He packed so much emotion into that movie, and kicked serious ass. Why do we need these baby and teen versions?

@CapstheMFingMan - to complete the non-traditional family dynamic Gunn is going for with his Guardians (and toys. that too).

it also explains his progenie: when they die, they leave seeds that grow into new ones. an asexual alien species basically.
