Dave Bautista has amassed a surprisingly high-quality filmography for a former WWE wrestler who has only been acting in films since 2012. He has, of course, been the scene-stealing Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and other Marvel projects, but he has also appeared as a Bond henchman in SPECTRE, opened Denis Villeneuve's masterpiece Blade Runner 2049 and will next be seen in Drew Pearce's directorial debut Hotel Artemis.
With all of this pedigree, it is perhaps surprising that the role Bautista has been campaigning for years for is in one of the most maligned and poorly thought of genres; the video-game movie.
The actor revealed in a recent Twitter Q&A with GameSpot that he would love to play Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War film.
Many people have tried to crack the cross-medium adaptation but all to no avail and while there is a striking similarity between the actor and video-game character, it would be a shame to see Bautista tarnish a solid run of roles for a lackluster action part. Particularly considering that the Gears of War film currently in development at Universal has screenwriter Shane Salerno attached, who has previously written such films as Armageddon and Alien vs Predator: Requiem.
What do you think? Would you like to see Bautista as Fenix? Do you have hopes for the Gears of War film? Leave your thoughts below.
