James Gunn Says 'Ms. Marvel' Won't Join The GUARDIANS; Reveals Stan Lee's Original Cameo

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently appeared at Dragon Con in Atlanta, and a recap of the panel features him revealing that neither Ms. Marvel or any other Earthbound superhero will join the team in the sequel, the status of Thunderbolts and Stan Lee's original (and hilarious) cameo!

Collider have a lengthy recap of James and Sean Gunn's recent appearance at Dragon Con in Atlanta, and plenty of great new reveals about Guardians of the Galaxy were revealed in the process. Perhaps the best one is what the writer and director originally had planned for Stan Lee's cameo, something he describes as a battle he lost with Disney (something which surprised Gunn after he managed to get them to leave in the line referencing Jackson Pollock).

The original plan was for Lee to be one of the Collector's exhibit (where he would have joined a Dark Elf from Thor: The Dark World, Cosmo, and Howard the Duck to name just a few), and the scene would have featured Groot looking at the legendary comic creation in shock only for him to get the middle finger from the man responsible for breathing life into the likes of Spider-Man and the Fanastic Four! That would have been a hell of a lot of fun to see, no doubt.

Unsurprisingly, talk also turned to female superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and when asked whether or not there's a plan to bring Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel, into the Guardians of the Galaxy's roster, Gunn made it clear that he wants to steer clear of "Earthlings" in the cosmic side of this world in a bid to keep the main focus on Star-Lord. However, he did agree that she will likely be brought to the big screen - possibly in Avengers: Age of Ultron if recent reports are to be believed - sooner rather than later and that there are plenty of other female characters he can introduce in future instalments of this franchise.

Finally, Gunn provided a vague update on another of his passion projects; The Thunderbolts. According to the site, it has now been put on the backburner (if it ever happens at all) as he focuses on the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a number of spin-off ideas he has.
